Position Summary
As a Designer with our Substation Building Information Modeling group at Oncor, you're responsible for the creating substation physical and electrical BIM designs for Company's substation engineering teams and ensuring the Company's substation design BIM standards are current and adhered to by all users.
We are considering applicants with multiple experience levels. Please view all details related to responsibilities, education, and experience level for each level of consideration.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of BIM substation design software's, including process creation, integration with other related Company software, and design library creation.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate BIM design symbols, assemblies, libraries, and templates.
  • Remain aware of new substation equipment being purchased by Company and coordinate directly with substation equipment manufacturers to download design content and update internal design standards.
  • Perform quality assurance of internal and external substation designs to ensure adherence to Company's BIM design standards and processes.
  • With minimal direction, develop substation project physical and electrical 3D and 2D Computer-Aid Design (CAD) designs for Engineering teams from conceptual plans.
  • Perform necessary calculations to ensure that the design meets the technical requirements and adheres to Company's safety and design standards.
  • Review substation as-builts by comparing post-construction 3D laser scans with 3D BIM design models and following up with Engineering teams on discrepancies.
  • Coordinate/develop design documents, drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
  • Perform all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

Additional responsibilities for Designer include:
  • Develop and deliver training content to users.
  • Delegate and monitor work while mentoring drafters and designers.

Additional responsibilities for Senior Designer include:
  • Lead the implementation of BIM substation design software's, including process creation, integration with other related Company software, and design library creation.

Skills
  • Technical ability to understand electric circuit theory and device selection and placement.
  • Technical ability to understand electrical designs and industry standards.
  • Technical ability to select and place equipment in design based on technical requirements.
  • Experience within a team being a key contributor and/or leading projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines is required.

Education & Experience
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
For Associate Designer:
  • 3+ years' of 2D CAD experience with 1+ years' experience using BIM design software OR 2+ years of BIM design software.

For Designer:
  • 3+ years' experience using BIM design software and 3+ years' of 2D CAD experience.

For Senior Designer:
  • 5+ years' experience using BIM design software.

Applicants with any of the below are encouraged to apply, but it is not a requirement:
  • 2-year Associate degree or Bachelor degree in a technical related curriculum are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in substation BIM design.

Measure of Success
  • Ability to effectively manage projects from inception to completion, working with other groups.
  • Consistent delivery of safe and accurate substation designs with minimal supervision and technical direction.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring of other team members.
