SEASONAL POSITION

The Arc Gloucester's Camp Sun 'N Fun is currently looking for Summer Day Camp Counselors for the summer!

Summary: The position of Camp Counselor provides direct care services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by The Arc Gloucester / Camp Sun โ€˜N Fun and helps these individuals reach their fullest potential.

Position: Seasonal. Camp Counselors live at the camp property during the Camp Season in a cabin setting. This position is supervised by the Camp Recreation Director. The camp season starts 6/15/2026 with training week. Camper sessions start Sunday, 6/21/2026.Camp sessions run from mid-day Sundays through mid-day Fridays. Day camp counselors are typically scheduled Monday - Friday daytime hours. However, flexibility and willingness to adjust hours to support weekend activities is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure the smooth operation of assigned cabin during daily activities, schedule and handle the direct care and supervision of campers and participants
  • Assist individuals served (ages 8 - 100) with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including but not limited to toileting, hygeine, feeding, cleaning.
  • Work flexibly within a team that supports the needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families
  • Participate and encourage camper participation in all activities and help maintain equipment and areas of camp in safe operating conditions
  • Willing and able to lift, transfer and provide direct care to individuals whom we serve
  • Transport individuals served and other staff, as a driver or an aid to outtings, field trips, appointments or in emergencies
  • Assist in medication administration and corresponding attendant paperwork, if assigned
  • Documentation of daily camper activities in Camper Notes
  • Report any emergencies or problems to the Resident Camp Director or designee immediately, providing necessary documentation as required
  • Participate in all required staff meetings, training, & activities
  • Cleaning and prep of camp areas
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skill in all listed job functions
  • Professional engagement and interaction with staff and with campersโ€™ families/caregivers
  • Direct care interaction with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Comply with the DDD Program Manual, The Arc Gloucesterโ€™s and Camp Sun โ€˜N Funโ€™s Policies and Procedures Manual and applicable state, local and federal regulations, including any COVID-19 vaccination mandates & policies
  • Must cooperate and participate in reviews, investigations, and inspections, including but not limited to the Agency, American Camp Association (ACA), DHS Licensing and DHS staff.
  • Complete initial and ongoing required training
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must possess a high school diploma/GED
  • At least one (1) year experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Proficient in basic computer, math, reading comprehension and verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain active CPR/First Aide certification
  • Successfully pass initial and ongoing State/Federal Criminal Background checks, including Fingerprinting, CARI checks, Central Registry checks and drug screens
  • Camp experience preferred

While performing the essential functions of this position, the following are required with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to operate a computer, phone, and other relevant technology
  • Talk, hear and communicate in person, over the phone and using other technologies
  • Physical duties, including but not limited to carrying, driving, general lifting (at least 50 lbs.), assisting with transferring and lifting of individuals, pushing and pulling (resistance of at least 25 lbs.), bending, cleaning, and climbing stairs
