The Elizabeth Layton Center is hiring Summer Youth Specialists for our summer groups. These are temporary positions that run from May 26, 2026 – early August. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Youth Specialists must be able to start by Monday, May 26 and be committed to work through the summer. This is a Monday - Friday position located in Paola, KS. Paid training is provided.

SUMMARY
The Youth Specialist will provide supervision and supportive services to youth diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance. The Youth Specialist, through supervision and direction, will assist the youth in developing skills. When working with youth, the majority of the time will be spent providing individual or psychosocial group services to the youth. The Youth Specialist through supervision and direction of a licensed and credentialed QMHP, will assist consumers by providing information, education, and training to build knowledge, develop skills, and change attitudes with a goal of increasing the consumer’s independence, productivity, self-determination, integration, and inclusion in the community. The majority of the Youth Specialist’s time will be spent providing services to consumers in their homes, the center, and other community settings. The position reports directly to the CBS Coordinator.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides one-to-one psychosocial rehabilitation services for youth
  • Assists in developing and providing structured psychosocial group activities
  • Supports personal care goals and overall treatment plan of specific youth
  • Organizes program activities and functions
  • Maintains a safe and productive environment during time spent in attendance of consumers
  • Consults with other mental health staff and works co-jointly as indicated
  • Must provide transportation to and from various program activities
    (must maintain a good driving record)

  • Maintains appropriate records for reporting, evaluation, accounting, and clinical purposes
  • Meets deadlines for daily paperwork and reports
  • Provides quality documentation
  • Completes other duties as deemed appropriate by immediate supervisor
  • Complies with ELC policies and procedures
  • Completes all required trainings as assigned
  • Available to work evenings and weekends
  • Maintains productivity standard of 50% of hours worked.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possesses a high school diploma or graduate equivalency degree
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Have a minimum of 40 hours of training in providing equivalent supportive services to child and/or adult consumers or be able to attend 40 hours of on-site training. On site training may be required outside of regularly scheduled working hours.
  • Must pass a security check as required by Medicaid Regulations
  • Clean driving record

  • Ability to relate and work creatively and energetically with consumers at risk of hospitalization
  • Relates a positive approach to complex mental health issues
  • Communicates directly and effectively in a cooperative manner
