Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:  

This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch, which operates a mission-based family and group conference and retreat center and residential summer camp serving more than 50,000 guests annually. The Night Security/ PM Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and improvement of facilities that support the daily operations of Snow Mountain Ranch. This position plays a key role in ensuring a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for guests and staff by performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Perform repairs, installations, and upkeep across all facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, and general construction tasks. 
  • Safely operate hand and power tools common to the construction and maintenance industry. 
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently, safely, and professionally, ensuring accommodations or facilities are operational upon completion. 
  • Accurately enter and track work orders in the computerized maintenance system. 
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing, heating, and electrical equipment. 
  • Repair and maintain locks, windows, furniture, fixtures, and appliances. 
  • Perform minor construction, drywall installation and repair, painting (interior and exterior), and general carpentry tasks. 
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and guests, providing courteous and effective service. 
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize projects for maximum efficiency and resource use. 
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding work assignments, challenges, and project progress. 
  • Assist in scheduling and overseeing seasonal or volunteer maintenance staff to ensure adequate coverage. 
  • Monitor inventory, requisition materials, and ensure proper use of tools and supplies. 
  • Patrol YMCA grounds, facilities, and staff housing to ensure a safe and secure environment for guests and staff.  
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents such as theft, disturbance, or public intoxication; conduct investigations and file accurate reports.  
  • Patrol and secure Camp Chief Ouray grounds during the summer season.  
  • Inspect fire pits and record pool chemical levels as assigned.  
  • Perform cabin and lodge checks using a security scanner to document patrol activities.  
  • Ensure that all doors and windows in public buildings are secured after hours.  
  • Maintain professional communication with local emergency services and agencies, including fire, law enforcement, medical, wildlife, and animal control.  
  • Maintain integrity in the use and handling of YMCA keys.  
  • Enforce all YMCA safety and conduct policies with professionalism and fairness.  
  • Complete electronic daily activity reports and incident documentation accurately and on time.  
  • Maintain clear, organized records and communicate effectively with supervisors regarding security and maintenance matters.  
  • Possess a valid, USA state-issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.  
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. 
  • Required 3 nights a week relief Security, 2 nights a week as evening Maintenance Technician.  
  • If living on-site, serve on-call at least one night per week. 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proven experience in facility maintenance in commercial and residential environments. 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and initiative to seek help when needed. 
  • Proficient in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook) and digital work order systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings across the Snow Mountain Ranch property. The Maintenance Technician must be able to: 

  • Move about the property to access facilities, equipment, and grounds. 
  • Stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and bend for extended periods. 
  • Lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Work in varied weather conditions, including snow, rain, heat, and cold. 
  • Operate hand and power tools safely in confined spaces or elevated areas. 
  • Maintain visual and auditory awareness for safety when using machinery or working around active areas. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate, though it may be elevated during the use of power tools or construction activities.
