Brief Description 
Manufacture products/parts that are of high quality and within tolerances. Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. 

Key Responsibilities 
Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece and setup requirements 
Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining 
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jib borers, grinders, and shapers 
Set controls to regulate machining factors such as speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth of cut to overcome machining variances 
Occasionally edit computerized machine control media 
Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required 
Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications 
Use hand tools to complete set-ups 
Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data 
Confer with production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems 
Assist and train other machinists 
Keep area clean and organized

Qualifications (Required) 
3+ years of prior machinist experience or machinist education 
Adequate mathematical ability when calculating material needs 
Strong ability to maintain strict tolerances of manufactured parts 
Good communication and organizational skills with a willingness to work with others 
Good understanding of production in a manufacturing facility 
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings to manufacture product 
Knowledge of part manufacturing 
Basic understanding of speeds and feeds required for various machining operations and cutting tools 
Ability to use material handling equipment such as hand truck, pallet jack, or jib crane 
Knowledge of safety requirements and PPE 
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel within the company, professionally, and in a positive manner 
Majority of work is performed in an indoor manufacturing shop; noise level is usually moderate to high; exposure to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, forklifts, and electricity 
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; must have good close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus; ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, walk, use hands and arms to reach for and carry objects, climb a ladder, speak and hear
