The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and managing process safety initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices. This role focuses on identifying and mitigating risks associated with chemical and manufacturing processes while driving continuous improvement in process safety management (PSM) systems. The ideal candidate will have a some background in process safety, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, as well as experience working in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
Process Safety Management (PSM) & Compliance
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of PSM programs in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and other applicable regulations.
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA), and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain process safety documentation, including Process Safety Information (PSI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety guidelines.
Risk Assessment & Incident Investigation
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including consequence modeling, dispersion analysis, and fire/explosion risk evaluations.
  • Lead or support incident investigations related to process safety events, root cause analyses (RCA), and the development of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on incident learnings and industry best practices.
Training & Collaboration
  • Provide process safety training to engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel to enhance safety awareness and competency.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure process safety is integrated into design, modifications, and operational procedures.
  • Support capital projects by reviewing process safety requirements during design and implementation phases.
Audits & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct internal PSM audits to assess program effectiveness and compliance.
  • Recommend and implement process safety improvements to enhance operational safety and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on emerging process safety trends, regulations, and technologies to ensure industry-leading safety practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Chemical Engineering, Process Safety, or a related field required; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 0-5 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical, manufacturing, or related industry.
  • Core knowledge of PSM, RMP, HAZOP, LOPA, and other process safety methodologies.
  • Experience with risk assessment tools, process modeling software (e.g., PHAST, ALOHA, or similar), and regulatory compliance.
