Position Description
SUMMARY
As a Pile Driver Leadman, this position is responsible for assisting the Foreman with the proper assembly of pile driving equipment in addition to the layout and installation of piles in their location and embedment depth. The Pile Driver Leadman will support the Foreman and direct the work activities of the crew safely and productively to ensure their successful completion in one or more areas of the project.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate project objectives and plans with Foremen and/or Superintendent and subcontractors before the execution of construction.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings to monitor project status and understand the job scope and timeline.
  • Assist in coordinating logistics in receiving materials, equipment, and subcontractors for successful project completion.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with company management and support planning for job equipment, material, and personnel requirements.
  • Complete all necessary daily job logs and attend required meetings and training.
  • Install H-beam, concrete pile, sheet pile, etc. for marine, heavy civil, or railroad projects.
  • Assist in unloading and assembling cranes, hammers, and leads or other equipment to be used in pile driving.
  • Prepare piling to be driven and assist in positioning and driving pile according to contract plans and specifications.
  • Work and communicate with the operator to position piles accurately. Operate vibratory hammer, diesel hammer, and heavy equipment to accomplish pile driving.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in pile driving construction. Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from Foreman and crew. Must possess the ability to read construction plans. Demonstrate knowledge of practices and materials involved in pile driving construction, general equipment, cranes, and rigging.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in marine pile driving construction and working on barges or job sites. Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Intermediate knowledge and skills in marine operations, such as pile driving, welding, crane operations, barges, etc. Intermediate knowledge and understanding of basic construction terms and concepts. Bilingual (English and Spanish).

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment.
  • The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
  • The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required.
  • The individual may occasionally be required to sit in a vehicle for up to 8 hours.
  • The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • The individual may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for long periods.
  • The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and/or elevated heights.
  • The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
  • The individual may be required to perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work.
