Qualifications:
1. One-year experience in hemodialysis required
2. Graduation from an approve School of Nursing.
3. CA Registered Nurse License - Required
4. American Heart Association BLS Provider - Required
5. Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate leadership potentials.
Must be able to complete training and able to demonstrate competencies in machine set-up, initiation, and termination of treatment, monitoring of patient and other function necessary to complete a dialysis procedure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Treatment Activities:
l . Appropriately manage and directs care of fistula, shunts, grafts, and dialysis catheters. Has thorough understanding of care and appropriate action to take during access problems. Perform venipunctures, shunt care, and dressing changes with expertise.
2. Responsible for the proper management of the dialysis treatment of all patients under his/her care
3. Administer and document administration of all medications. Assess patient needs for PRN medications and respond accordingly.
4. Document assessments. Evaluate and respond to adverse reactions.
5. Obtain and carry out physician orders promptly and precisely.
6. Perform lab procedures, to include requisitioning, centrifuging, and obtaining of specimens. Understand the risks of Hepatitis and handle blood specimens appropriately, using universal precautions. Work with hepatitis and other bloodborne pathogen carriers and utilize isolation precautions, as outlined in the Procedure manual.
7. Implement individual patient care clan as prescribed by the physician and evaluate outcomes on an on-going basis.
8. Understand and evaluate lab values. Explain problems of such to patients and other staff when indicated.
9. Observe and evaluate patient's signs, symptoms and reactions to therapy and implement appropriate actions.
10. Instruct patient or relatives concerning home care, in accordance with physician's instructions.
11. Maintain medication log.
12. Supervise technicians to insure completion of assignments.
13. Make frequent patient rounds to ensure safety of patients.
Other Activities Related to Patient Care
1. Ensure all appropriate tests on equipment are done before initiation of dialysis.
2. Perform spot checks on machines and patients during dialysis procedure to insure safe and quality care.
3. Check crash cart daily, per policy.
4, Assist in maintaining inventory of stock medications.
5. Perform and document initial nursing assessments on newly admitted patients on own shift.
6, Demonstrate teaching ability in most aspects of treatment procedures.
7. Understand, perform, and direct all emergency procedures.
8. Assist in training and evaluating of new employees.
9. Maintain empathetic attitude with patients. Counsel patients and encourage compliance.
10. Always demonstrate and set an example of professionalism. Support and promote the policies of the Center.
11. Assist in maintaining a safe environment by reporting defective equipment or equipment that is out of order.
12. Report inappropriate conduct or behavior of any staff member or patient - take immediate corrective action, if necessary.
13. Observe established safety practices and universal precautions.
14. Assist Administration in implementing rules and regulations to all staff, patients, and visitors.
15. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
