Andrologist / Men's Health Urologist

Position Summary

The Department of Urology is seeking a fellowship-trained Andrologist/Men's Health Urologist to join our academic practice to replace an outgoing andrology/men's health urologist. The physician will provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for men with disorders of sexual health, fertility, hormonal dysfunction, and reconstructive urology while supporting the department's missions of clinical excellence, education, research, and access to care.

The successful candidate will help lead acomprehensive Men's Health Program while collaborating closely with reproductive endocrinology, oncology, primary care, endocrinology, pelvic health, and advanced practice providers.

The candidate will receive faculty appointment at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine commensurate with experience and accomplishments.

Primary Clinical Responsibilities

The physician will provide evaluation and management of patients with:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Peyronie's disease
  • Male infertility
  • Hypogonadism (Low Testosterone)
  • Ejaculatory disorders
  • Chronic orchialgia (testicular pain)
  • Varicocele
  • Hydrocele
  • Benign scrotal disease
  • Vasectomy consultation and reversal
  • Male contraception
  • Fertility preservation
  • Sexual dysfunction following prostate cancer treatment

Office-Based Procedures

The physician will perform:

  • Flexible cystoscopy
  • Penile duplex Doppler ultrasound
  • Intracavernosal injection teaching
  • Intralesional injections for Peyronie's disease
  • Testopel implantation
  • Vasectomy
  • Testicular biopsy
  • Hormone replacement management
  • Male fertility evaluations
  • Interpretation of semen analyses and endocrine testing

Surgical Responsibilities

The physician will perform:

  • Penile prosthesis implantation
  • Microsurgical varicocelectomy
  • Vasectomy and Vasectomy reversal
  • Sperm retrieval procedures (PESA, TESA, TESE, Micro-TESE)
  • Hydrocelectomy
  • Spermatocelectomy
  • Orchiectomy
  • Medical and surgical management of Peyronie's disease

Academic Responsibilities

  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Contribute to clinical research and scholarly publications.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with curriculum development and resident education.

Clinical Productivity Expectations

The physician will be expected to:

  • Maintain a full-time academic clinical practice.
  • The position is 0.9 FTE clinical and 0.1 FTE administrative (e.g. 4.5 days clinical work, 0.5 days administrative work)
  • Meet departmental expectations for patient access and timely scheduling.
  • Maintain productivity consistent with departmental benchmarks for:
    • Work RVUs
    • New patient access
    • Established patient follow-up
    • Surgical volume
    • Patient satisfaction
    • Documentation completion
    • Quality metrics

Call Responsibilities

  • Participate in the departmental call schedule.
  • Provide consultation for inpatient and emergency department patients.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers and residents in managing inpatient and outpatient care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited Urology Residency.
  • Fellowship training in Andrology, Sexual Medicine, or Male Reproductive Medicine preferred.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Urology.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure.
  • Eligible for hospital privileges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship-trained in Men's Health or Sexual Medicine.
  • Experience in prosthetic urology.
  • Experience with microsurgical fertility procedures.
  • Demonstrated interest in academic medicine and resident education.
  • Experience participating in clinical trials or quality improvement initiatives.

Strategic Role within the Department

This position is expected to support the continued growth of the Men's Health Program by:

  • Expanding access for male infertility and sexual medicine services.
  • Increasing outpatient procedural capacity.
  • Growing prosthetic and reconstructive surgical services.
  • Increasing surgical volume and downstream hospital revenue.
  • Supporting multidisciplinary collaboration across Boston Medical CenterHealth System.
  • Enhancing resident and fellow education.
  • Advancing research and innovation in Men's Health.

Requirements: Qualified candidates will possess an MD or MD/PhD and be board-certified/eligible in Urology. Candidates will be licensed or eligible for a medical license in the state of Massachusetts. Academic rank will be based on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and departmental budget.
