Overview

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Development & Deployment Tools Engineer position for our client.

Location: Phoenix, AZ metro area (Hybrid working model)
Duration: 6 months with option to convert after 6 months
Citizenship: US Citizens (USC), Permanent Residents (PR), and Other EAD holders (no visa-dependent candidates)

Overview:
This role focuses on enabling modern DevOps and automation practices for IBM z/OS mainframe environments. The engineer will design and support CI/CD pipelines, build and release automation tools, and ensure reliable deployment of enterprise mainframe applications across DEV/QA/UAT/PROD environments. The position sits at the intersection of mainframe systems engineering, DevOps, and release management, supporting legacy workloads while advancing modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain mainframe build, deployment, and release automation tools
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and IMS workloads
  • Automate compile, link-edit, test, and deployment processes across environments
  • Manage code promotion across DEV / QA / UAT / PROD environments
  • Support and enhance change/release management tools (Endevor, Changeman, ISPW)
  • Integrate mainframe workflows with Git and distributed/cloud DevOps tools
  • Develop automation scripts using REXX, Python, JCL, and shell scripting
  • Troubleshoot build, deployment, and pipeline issues
  • Support release planning, change management, and production deployments
  • Ensure compliance with security, audit, and governance standards
  • Collaborate with application developers, DBAs, systems programmers, and DevOps teams

Core Skills:

  • IBM z/OS mainframe environments
  • CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
  • Mainframe change/release tools (Endevor, Changeman, ISPW)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
