Job description

General Manager
Position Summary
At Great Lakes Hospitality Group, our General Managers are the leaders who set the tone for the entire hotel. They create an environment where employees feel supported, they create guest experiences and the hotel operates efficiently every day.
A successful General Manager leads with integrity, works alongside their team, and takes pride in every aspect of the hotel-from the cleanliness of a guest room to the financial performance of the property. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the hotel while developing employees, creating memorable guest experiences, and achieving the hotel's business goals.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the hotel with a positive, hands-on leadership style.
  • Create a welcoming environment for both guests and team members.
  • Help develop annual business goals, budgets, and operational plans that support the hotel's success.
  • Review financial reports, guest feedback, and operational results to celebrate successes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with each department to ensure guests receive friendly, efficient, and consistent service.
  • Build, coach, and support a strong leadership team through ongoing communication, training, and recognition.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop team members while promoting a positive workplace culture.
  • Support sales and marketing efforts that help grow the hotel's business within the local community.
  • Ensure the hotel is clean, safe, well-maintained, and consistently meets brand standards.
  • Promote preventative maintenance practices that protect the hotel's facilities and equipment.
  • Encourage teamwork by maintaining open communication between all departments.
  • Recognize employees who go above and beyond for our guests and fellow team members.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the success of the hotel.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys leading people, solving problems, and creating great guest experiences. The ideal General Manager is approachable, dependable, and willing to jump in wherever they're needed.
Successful candidates will have:
  • A solid understanding of all hotel departments, especially Housekeeping, Front Office, and Maintenance.
  • An appreciation for the important role housekeeping plays in guest satisfaction and hotel success.
  • The ability to recognize cleanliness, organization, and attention to detail throughout the hotel.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good organizational and time management abilities.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and hotel property management systems.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications
Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience as an Assistant General Manager, or equivalent hotel leadership experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience in hotel operations.
  • A well-rounded understanding of hotel operations, with experience working closely alongside the Housekeeping department.
  • Sales or revenue management experience is helpful but not required.
Education
A degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent hotel experience is equally valued.
License
A valid driver's license is required.
Our Leadership Philosophy
We believe great General Managers don't simply manage hotels-they build teams, develop future leaders, and create an environment where employees enjoy coming to work and guests enjoy returning.
No one is expected to know everything on day one. We value curiosity, accountability, teamwork, and a willingness to learn just as much as experience. We succeed together, celebrate together, and continuously look for ways to improve.
