Job description

Job Title:             Groundskeeping/Landscaping/Light Maintenance- McPherson                                               

Department:       Administration                                                                                                                                           

Reports To:         Office Manager/Asset Mgmt.                                               

Supervises:         None                                                                                        

Classification:    Non-Exempt  

Role:    The employee in this position will primarily be responsible for actively participating in, and overseeing, all aspects of landscaping and groundskeeping maintenance for company properties owned and maintained in McPherson and Hutchinson.  Secondary duties may include general maintenance of equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical and basic carpentry.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operating power equipment and vehicles relevant to needs and responsibilities of position.
  • Maintain hydration infrastructure such as sprinkler systems, wells, and related electronics.
  • Trim trees, shrubs and maintain bedding areas.
  • Maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking areas—perform general cleaning and snow removal.
  • Clean and assist with general upkeep of the facilities.
  • Order supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Prepare chemicals as needed and apply fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides as needed and in accordance with regulations and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Expectations:

  • Prompt, consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Related work experience preferred.
  • On-the-job training offered.
  • Basic mathematical, grammar and computer skills preferred.  Valid driver’s license required.
  • Thorough understanding of caring for lawns, trees, and shrubbery.
  • Must live in the city of McPherson

Physical Requirements:         

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
