Job description

Job Summary:
The Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a GIS Analyst III to support the Office of Homeland Security. This role involves performing advanced technical GIS activities, analyzing spatial data, and developing geospatial applications for automation related to Next Gen 911.
Responsibilities:
• Uses existing GIS software to capture and manage spatial data.
• Oversees quality analysis review on data.
• Compiles, inputs, modifies, and enhances computer maps.
• Initiates reviews of existing or new digital map products and prioritizes update schedule.
• Provides user support and training for geographic database and mapping software; creates curriculum and teaches classes in classroom and remote settings.
• Responsible for complex technical support and analysis in back-end maintenance of GIS implementations.
• Provides expert level user support for GIS applications.
• Advises agency leadership on matters relating to the use of GIS for policy decisions.
• Provides advanced user support and training for geographic database and map systems.
• Automates complex map production showing spatial analyses results.
• Some travel is required.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
• Applicant must have successfully completed six semester hours in computer science, data processing, or geographic information system courses.
• Three years experience in a technology or GIS-related field.
• A master's degree in GIS-related field will substitute for two years of experience.
• Additional experience in a technology or GIS-related field will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Related technical or vocational training will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
