Laborer Public Works Department

Job Overview:

The Town is seeking a Laborer for its Public Works Department. This position performs responsible semiskilled landscaping and grounds maintenance work to support the town and school grounds, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, open space, trails, walkways/multi-use paths, and roads. Laborers occasionally operate non-specialized equipment in connection with manual tasks as well as related work as required. 

The Town of Mansfield's Department of Public Works provides services for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's fleet and infrastructure such as roads; sidewalks; bridges; solid waste facilities; park and recreation areas; athletic fields; sewers and sewer pump stations; and vehicles and equipment. The following departments, divisions, and programs are reflected under Public Works: Engineering Division which includes sewers; Operations Division which includes equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, road maintenance, transfer station and tree warden; Solid Waste Division which includes trash and recycling contracted services.

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and some experience in general labor, construction, roads and grounds maintenance. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Connecticut. Possession of a CDL preferred.

Work Schedule & Location:

This position is normally scheduled 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will normally work 6:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. Selected candidates must also be available to respond to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays due to inclement weather events and other exigent circumstances. The work location is 230 Clover Mill Road, Mansfield Center.

Salary (7/1/2026):

Grade 2 $29.21/hr - $32.68/hr
