JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Groundskeeper Status: Part time
Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Department/Location: St. Augustine Catholic High School / Tucson
Primary Function: Under the direction of the School President and Facilities/Grounds leadership, the employee is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, appearance, and care of the school grounds, landscaping, and designated outdoor areas. The Groundskeeper works closely with the Grounds Lead to maintain a safe, clean, and attractive campus and to provide consistent detail work throughout the school grounds. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "...Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Church's spiritual and pastoral mission and the mission of St. Augustine Catholic High School.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee's professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
  • Assist the Grounds Lead with the overall maintenance and appearance of school grounds
  • Perform routine groundskeeping and landscaping duties throughout campus
  • Assist with mowing and trimming as directed
  • Perform edging, blowing, weed removal, and general grounds detailing
  • Maintain grass areas, landscaped areas, walkways, parking areas, building surroundings, and other designated outdoor spaces
  • Assist with tree, shrub, plant, and garden maintenance
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping and grounds preparation
  • Help maintain areas surrounding school buildings and between building wings
  • Assist with maintaining the appearance of parking lots, sidewalks, breezeways, and other outdoor areas
  • Support the Grounds Lead with athletic field and campus grounds maintenance as assigned
  • Assist with routine irrigation inspections and report irrigation concerns or problems
  • Assist with basic irrigation maintenance and repairs as trained and directed
  • Identify and report damaged equipment, landscaping concerns, irrigation issues, safety concerns, or other maintenance needs
  • Complete routine grounds maintenance work according to established schedules and priorities
  • Assist with campus improvement and grounds projects
  • Assist with preparation, set-up, and breakdown for sporting and special events
  • Operate grounds maintenance equipment and tools as required
  • Properly clean, maintain, and store grounds equipment and tools
  • Maintain an organized and safe work area
  • Assist other Facilities Department personnel when assigned
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift a minimum of 45 lbs. as required in a normal grounds and maintenance environment.
Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and operating grounds maintenance equipment.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, school community, and the general public
  • Must be dependable, organized, willing to learn, and able to work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and perform a variety of groundskeeping and landscaping duties
  • Ability to follow established schedules, priorities, and directions
  • Punctuality is a must at all times; hours may vary depending on the needs of the school
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance
  • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check
  • Able to read directions, equipment instructions, and safety warnings; must be safety-conscious
  • Knowledge, skills, or experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, irrigation, or general maintenance preferred
  • Ability and willingness to learn proper operation of groundskeeping equipment.

Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or equivalent education preferred
  • Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, maintenance, custodial work, construction, or a similar position preferred
  • Experience operating landscaping or grounds maintenance equipment preferred
