Live In Fintech information

What is a live in fintech professional?

A Live In Fintech professional typically refers to someone who lives onsite or in close proximity to a fintech startup or company, often as part of an accelerator, incubator, or intensive program. These professionals are deeply involved in developing and growing financial technology solutions, working alongside founders, engineers, and other stakeholders. Their roles can range from technical development to business strategy, and they often benefit from immersive environments that foster rapid innovation and close collaboration. Living onsite can help them more easily network, participate in workshops, and respond quickly to business needs. This setup is common in fintech hubs and during startup bootcamps.

What are some of the unique challenges faced by professionals working in a live-in fintech role, and how can they prepare for them?

Professionals in live-in fintech positions often face the challenge of balancing intense work schedules with personal boundaries, as they may be required to live onsite or closely integrate with the company's operations. This can blur the lines between work and personal life, making time management and setting clear boundaries crucial. Additionally, live-in fintech roles may involve rapid response to technical issues and close collaboration with cross-functional teams, requiring adaptability and strong communication skills. To prepare, candidates should develop resilience, establish routines for self-care, and be comfortable with a fast-paced, dynamic environment typical of fintech startups.

Is live in fintech a high paying career?

Live in fintech roles can offer competitive salaries, especially for professionals with strong technical skills, financial knowledge, and relevant certifications. Compensation varies based on experience, location, and company size, but many positions in fintech are considered well-paying within the finance and technology sectors.

Banking roles are more traditional, often in established financial institutions, emphasizing banking certifications. Understanding these differences helps job seekers target the right roles based on their skills and career goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fintech professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fintech Professional, you generally need strong analytical skills, a background in finance or technology, and often a relevant degree in finance, computer science, or engineering. Familiarity with technical tools like blockchain platforms, data analytics software, programming languages (such as Python or SQL), and industry certifications (like CFA or Fintech-focused credentials) is typical. Standout professionals also demonstrate adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills to bridge gaps between technical and business teams. These skills are crucial for innovating and delivering secure, user-friendly financial solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

Job description

Accounting Manager

Location: Remote | Must reside in the Washington, DC metro area
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $100,000–$120,000, based on experience

A growing financial technology company serving the construction industry is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting operations, strengthen financial reporting, and build scalable processes to support continued growth.

This position is fully remote; however, candidates must be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and available to attend occasional in-person meetings.

The Role

The Accounting Manager will work across day-to-day accounting operations and strategic finance initiatives. This individual will lead the close process, oversee AP, AR, billing, collections, reconciliations, and reporting, and provide leadership with greater visibility into margins, profitability, expenses, cash flow, and overall operating performance.

The ideal candidate has experience working in a smaller or growing organization and enjoys improving accounting processes rather than simply maintaining existing systems. Experience with construction, project-based accounting, lending, payments, or multi-entity operations is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly and year-end close processes.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, invoicing, payments, and collections.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and support GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple entities and product lines.
  • Manage daily treasury activities, including cash positioning, liquidity planning, and intercompany cash movements.
  • Support capital management across multiple entities, debt facilities, and special-purpose vehicles.
  • Coordinate lender reporting, borrowing-base calculations, investor reporting, and funding reconciliations.
  • Assist with cash forecasting, working-capital management, budgeting, forecasting, and capital-deployment decisions.
  • Develop management reporting related to margins, product profitability, expenses, sales mix, and cash flow.
  • Support audits, tax compliance, and lender and investor reporting.
  • Improve accounting systems, internal controls, workflows, and reporting processes.
  • Partner with finance, operations, and executive leadership to provide accurate financial data and business insights.
  • Supervise accounting team members and coordinate work across AP and AR functions.
  • Help scale the company’s accounting infrastructure as the business expands.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least four years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, account reconciliations, and closing procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with AP, AR, billing, collections, and general ledger accounting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP or accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.

Preferred Experience

  • Construction, building materials, project-based accounting, AIA billing, or percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Fintech, lending, factoring, payments, trade credit, or financial services.
  • Multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions.
  • Margin analysis, product profitability reporting, or management accounting.
  • QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or a comparable accounting platform.
  • CPA, active CPA candidacy, or a master’s degree in Accounting.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary of $100,000–$120,000, depending on experience.
  • Equity opportunity.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Direct exposure to executive leadership.
  • Opportunity to build and improve the accounting foundation of a growing organization.
  • Meaningful influence over financial reporting, controls, processes, and business decisions.
