Job description

Job Overview:

Responsibilities:

  • Fusion splice SM or MM outside plant loose tube, inside plant tight buffered, and ribbon fiber optic cable
  • Prep, dress, and store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications
  • Preparation of armored and non-armored cables, ribbon and loose tube fiber and mid-sheath applications
  • Perform live fiber cut-overs during maintenance hours
  • Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently
  • Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter OTDR, VFL and Traffic Identifier
  • Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required
  • Perform other duties as required

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • 1-3 years of fiber splicing and testing
  • Working knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of fusion machines, OTDRs, power meters and tools of the trade
  • Organized, with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment & communicate professionally with co-workers and customers
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Requires a mixture of day and night work.
  • Must have a Valid driver's license
  • Be available for 7 day / 24-hour stand by on-call rotation as needed
  • Ability and willingness to work long and unpredictable hours if required, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and operate a bucket truck is needed
  • Willingness to operate within a schedule that is subject to inclement weather conditions

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
