Description

SUMMARY 

The Pastoral Care Coordinator provides coordination and support of parish pastoral care ministries to 

ensure the needs of the parish community are met. This role assists the Pastor in the daily operations of 

ministry to the sick, homebound, and bereavement ministries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

The duties and functions outlined herein are representative of the types of tasks performed within

Collaborates with parish staff in providing pastoral care to the parish community; 

Participates as a member of the parish staff through meetings, planning, and ministry support; 

Coordinates pastoral services for individuals experiencing illness, grief, or crisis; 

Oversees ministry to the sick and bereavement ministries, including basic budget tracking and 

recordkeeping; 

Promotes a welcoming and supportive parish environment; 

Coordinates visits to parishioners in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and private 

residences; 

Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers in compliance with diocesan policies, including Safe 

Environment requirements; 

Receives and processes requests for pastoral visits and Holy Communion for the homebound, 

hospitalized, and those in care facilities; 

Maintains an adequate number of trained and screened lay ministers to meet parish needs; 

Assigns ministers based on individual needs and circumstances; 

Conducts limited visits, as appropriate, to assess needs and provide support; 

Coordinates timely priest visits for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick; 

Coordinates priest visits to care facilities on a regular basis; 

Assists in scheduling Masses or liturgical services at designated facilities, as needed;

QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH 

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must

the diocese. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor's degree in theology, Pastoral Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field preferred; 

Previous experience in parish ministry or pastoral care preferred; Demonstrated experience in 

coordinating programs, volunteers, or ministry activities; 

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES 

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; 

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; 

Ability to interact with parishioners, staff, and diocesan representatives in a professional and 

pastoral manner; 

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion; 

Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities; 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Work is performed primarily in an office and parish setting. This position requires a flexible schedule, 

including evenings and weekends, to support pastoral needs and parish activities. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Tasks require the ability to perform light physical work, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, 

and/or pulling objects and materials up to 15 pounds. Work may involve extended periods at a computer 

or workstation. The position also requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and to 

communicate effectively in both verbal and written form, with or without reasonable accommodation.
