CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF JUDGE

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: SQL Database Administrator (DBA), Information Services Department
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
PAY GRADE: Grade 23
SALARY: $137,207
The following are duties and responsibilities of the SQL Database Administrator (DBA).
 
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments
  • Configure and maintain database server interfaces/integrations with partner agencies.
  • Monitor system's health and performance
  • Monitor and update anti-virus and anti-malware protection software to combat potential
  • security breaches
  • Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability and security
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in database performance and information security.
  • Serve as the Court's liaison to the County's Information Security Work Group.
  • Ensure data integrity
  • Creation long term technical direction for server, storage, and operations as it relates to
locally hosted databases
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution

  • Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement
  • Work collaboratively with a team of in-house application developers as well as 3rd party
vendors and partner agencies to meet the meet the business objectives of the court
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor's Degree - Computer Science (or equivalent field)
  • 4 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role
  • 4 years of experience with MY SQL Server Administration experience required
  • 4 years of experience in configuring and maintaining the performance of large/critical SQL Server database applications
  • 4 years of experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO)
  • 4 years of experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • 4 years of experience of High Availability (HA), SQL Clustering and Disaster Recovery
(DR) SQL Server
  • 4 years of experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups
  • 4 years of experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SRSS).
  • 4 years of experience with Windows server, including Active Directory

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
 
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists (MCTS) certification a plus
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP} certification a plus
  • Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) certification a plus
  • Sense of ownership and pride in performance and its impact on court operations

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen;
  • Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk;
  • Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation;
  • Strength to lift equipment weighing up to 75 pounds;
  • Use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis.
