Job description

Job Description
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining manufacturing work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Create, edit, and maintain manufacturing work instructions (MWIs) related to product changes or new products
  • Create, edit, and maintain processes or methods specifying sequence of operations and standard work for manufacturing processes (Standard Operating Procedures or Standard Operating Details)
  • Translate highly technical language into simple, easy to follow, step-by-step instructions
  • Create visual aids - diagrams, flowcharts, annotated images, etc. to support written procedures
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to gather accurate technical information and ask questions when something is unclear or incomplete
  • Manage the document's lifecycle, including revisions, routing for approvals, and publication to the Quality Management System, if needed
  • Support the new production introduction launches by developing documentation packages before first article builds
  • Review existing documentation for clarity, accuracy, and compliance; update outdated content proactively
  • Ensure all technical documentation is in compliance with IPC standards and/or NADCAP standards
  • Support customer audits by ensuring documentation is audit-ready at all times
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing/Technical Communication, English, or Communication or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years of technical writing experience within the manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of high-mix/low-volume manufacturing, preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear manufacturing work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Strong knowledge of work standards and visual manufacturing work instructions (MWIs)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Factory Logix, preferred
  • Experience with visual documentation tools, such as Visio
  • Familiarity with document control systems and quality management standards
  • Knowledge in Lean/Six Sigma principles and application methods
  • Comfortable on the production floor and willing to observe operations firsthand to document them accurately
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a U.S. Government granted security clearance
