Job description

Description

Are you a proven leader with a passion for public safety and emergency response, love what you do, but are looking for a change of scenery and new adventures?

Capital City Fire/Rescue (CCFR) in Juneau Alaska may be just the place for you!

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Battalion Chief to join our fire department’s senior leadership team. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in shaping operations, developing personnel, and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

Discover a career and lifestyle without compromise in Alaska’s breathtaking capital city. Juneau residents consistently rank "quality of life" as the primary reason they call this wilderness-metropolis home, and for good reason. When you are off-shift, you are minutes away from world-class outdoor adventures—from carving fresh powder at Eaglecrest Ski Area to kayaking past the Mendenhall Glacier or exploring over 250 miles of pristine hiking trails. In Juneau, you aren’t just taking a job; you are joining a safe, family-oriented community with a deep-rooted appreciation for its emergency

responders.

WHO WE ARE CORE VALUES:

Teamwork, Integrity, Professionalism, Positive Attitude, and Service.

OUR MISSION:

We serve and protect our community from life- and property-threatening emergencies in a competent, professional, and proactive manner.

OUR VISION:

Our vision is to provide fire, rescue, and emergency medical services at the highest level of excellence, professionalism, and commitment to the community. Proud of our past and embracing our future, the members of Capital City Fire/Rescue will work as an effective and integrated team, dedicated to continuous improvement and maintaining a positive environment.

THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM

In this position, you will receive a competitive salary package that includes the opportunity for regular pay increases, an excellent health insurance program that includes medical, dental, vision, and orthodontic care options, and paid leave and retirement credit through PERS (Public Employees' Retirement System).

We value the health and well-being of our employees. The CBJ provides the ability to participate in a robust wellness program that includes discounts to CBJ recreational centers and local fitness programs, free bi-annual health screenings, free flu shots, free classes, and challenges and webinars on healthy living to assist you with achieving work/life balance. In addition, through participation in the Health Yourself Wellness Program, employees may qualify for discounts on their health insurance premiums.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

CCFR provides 24/7 emergency response for the City and Borough of Juneau. All permanent full-time positions work 24-hour shifts and live at the station during their shift. CCFR has two live-in stations, the Juneau station located in downtown Juneau, and the Glacier station located near the Juneau International Airport. In addition, we have Douglas, Auke Bay, and Lynn Canal Stations.

ADDITIONAL TESTING

Successful candidates must pass Phase 1 of the selection process by meeting the minimum qualifications outlined below, passing a preliminary interview, and passing a criminal background check. Once this is accomplished, they will move to Phase 2 of the selection process, where we will travel them to Juneau to participate in an Assessment Center, and where they must also pass a psychological evaluation, and pass a physical “fit for duty” medical exam.

Typical Responsibilities
