Live In Catholic Nanny information

What is a live in Catholic nanny?

Live In Catholic Nannies are childcare professionals who reside with the family they work for and provide daily care for children in accordance with Catholic values and teachings. Their responsibilities often include supervising children, preparing meals, helping with homework, and instilling religious practices such as prayer and participation in sacraments. These nannies are often chosen by families who wish to ensure that their children are raised in a faith-based environment. They may also assist with light housekeeping related to the children and may accompany the family to church and other religious activities. Living in the family’s home allows the nanny to offer flexible and consistent childcare support.

What are some unique challenges faced by a live in Catholic nanny, and how can they be managed effectively?

A Live In Catholic Nanny often balances providing attentive childcare with respecting the family's religious values and traditions. Unique challenges may include adapting to the family's specific routines, participating in faith-based activities, and maintaining professional boundaries in a home environment. Successful nannies proactively communicate with parents about expectations, stay flexible, and seek clarity on religious practices they may be involved in, such as attending Mass or helping with catechism. Building trust and understanding helps ensure a harmonious living and working arrangement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in Catholic nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Catholic Nanny, you need experience in childcare, knowledge of child development, and an understanding of Catholic values and traditions, often supported by relevant certifications in CPR and first aid. Familiarity with household management tools, communication apps, and safe transportation are typically required. Compassion, patience, strong communication, and cultural sensitivity are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities ensure the child's well-being, foster a nurturing environment aligned with family values, and support effective household management.

Job description

Employment Opportunity

Professor of  New Testament

Open rank, full-time, tenured or tenure-track appointment, beginning July 1, 2027

Virginia Theological Seminary, a seminary of The Episcopal Church, invites applications for a full-time tenure or tenure-track faculty position in Mew Testament.

The successful candidate will teach 15 credits annually, comprised of a range of courses for Master's- and Doctoral-level students at introductory and advanced levels.  These include a two-semester sequence of New Testament introduction, courses in biblical Greek, and upper-level courses that situate New Testament texts within their literary, historical, and theological contexts. There are likely to be opportunities to teach residential intensives and online courses at our affiliated partner institution, The General Theological Seminary.

In addition to teaching, all faculty at VTS are expected to engage in a robust publishing program, contribute to the seminary's lifelong learning offerings, participate in daily worship and shared lunch, advise students, and share in the broader intellectual ad formational life of the seminary community.

Qualifications include:

  • Commitment to Christ and God’s mission in the world, and to theological education and formation;
  • A Doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in New Testament, conferred before June 30, 2027, with expertise in a focused field within the discipline;
  • Competence in teaching New Testament at the Master's level;
  • Evidence of or capacity for scholarly publication and research;
  • In line with the seminary's Covenant, demonstrate a special strength or capacity for teaching and mentoring underrepresented students;
  • Openness to teaching in online and face-to-face contexts.

The Seminary's primary mission is to form Christians for lay or ordained leadership and service in the ministry of the Church. Out of its evangelical, Catholic, and missionary tradition we seek to prepare our students as servants of Jesus Christ to equip the people of God for their vocation and ministry in the world.

Couples and persons from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. All full-time faculty members live in faculty housing on campus.

Applicant should submit a letter of application and curriculum vitae along with the names and email addresses of three references to qharkless@vts.edu. The committee will begin their review of applications on September 14, 2026 and continue their work until the position is filled.

Compensation Commensurate with experience.
