What is a live chat agent?

A Live Chat agent is a customer service professional who communicates with customers in real time through an online chat platform. Their main role is to assist customers by answering questions, resolving issues, and providing information about products or services. Live Chat agents help companies offer quick and convenient support, improving the overall customer experience. They require strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency with computer systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live chat agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live Chat Agent, you need strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with live chat platforms, CRM systems, and basic troubleshooting tools is often required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to multitask effectively make someone stand out in this position. These skills ensure prompt, clear, and helpful support to customers, enhancing satisfaction and maintaining company reputation.

What are the typical challenges faced by live chat agents, and how can they effectively manage high volumes of customer inquiries?

Live Chat agents often encounter the challenge of handling multiple customer conversations simultaneously, especially during peak hours. To manage this effectively, agents need strong multitasking skills, a good grasp of company policies, and the ability to prioritize urgent issues. Utilizing canned responses, maintaining clear and concise communication, and staying calm under pressure are essential strategies. Regular training and support from supervisors also help agents improve efficiency and deliver excellent customer service.

What are live chat jobs?

Live chat jobs focus on customer service and support. In this role, you assist people with technical issues, provide remote guidance and instructions, and work online from home or a call center to answer questions in a virtual environment. Many live chat jobs focus on following a flowchart of instructions to help identify and resolve known issues. If that fails, you usually contact a manager to get information on the best way to resolve a problem. Many live chat jobs also include verifying customer information, processing payments and refunds, and keeping track of reported issues. Some companies offer live chat 24/7, so you may be asked to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.

Total Rewards Administrator - Red Deer - Central Alberta Co-op

Co op

Red Deer, AB

Full-time

Retirement

Re-posted 3 days ago

Job description

Our Business Support Centre in Red Deer is looking for a Total Rewards Administrator who has a passion for payroll and can juggle multiple requests from Team Members and Team Leaders to make their day a bit easier when it comes to Total Rewards. You have, eagle eyes and see the details, awesome communication skills and enjoy problem solving. That is a bonus.

We're not just looking for a resume-we're looking for a person. Someone who brings their full self to work, whether that means spreadsheets, colour-coded emails or fresh ideas for new processes because you thrive on making things more efficient.

Location: Red Deer | Full-time or Fractional - You Choose!

Wait... what's "fractional"?

*Fractional work* means just that-a fraction of full-time and a fraction of the role (the part that you like the best!). Maybe you're balancing other commitments, freelancing, parenting, studying, or planning your next great adventure. If you're interested in part-time hours or more flexible work arrangements, we're open to that. Let's talk about what works for you.

Choose Your Own Adventure:

We want to know what speaks to you, your passions and your skills.

  • Thrive in fast-paced, detail-loving environments where juggling tasks is a sport.
  • Like supporting people through written, phone, electronic, and in-person interactions-all while keeping things confidential and value-driven.
  • Have a passion for Benefits, Medicals, Processing Separations-and generally being the secret sauce because we all know the Total Rewards department is super important.
  • Keep data tidy, digital files organized and named correctly, and spreadsheets updated and color coded - let us be honest this is your jam.
  • Want to make things more efficient and easier - update and create new processes and your co-workers will be crushing your to-do list like it's a warm-up act while you are on holidays.
  • Love forms and guiding people with what is needed for the forms- Forms are a big deal.

You Bring:

  • You have a CPP or like to get certified (but honestly, skills and flexibility matter more to us).
  • Familiar with AB Employment Standards Code
  • Experience with Benefits, Medicals, Separations or Onboarding (bonus points if both).
  • Eagle-eyed attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • A sense of discretion and professionalism (you'll be dealing with confidential info).
  • Computer confidence and the curiosity to learn new tech.
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to pivot when needed.
  • A great sense of humour. Seriously. We laugh a lot.
  • Ability to work some Saturdays & Sundays- it's Total Rewards, that is likely not a surprise (we have some options and can chat more). Pay period on then pay period off, not a full day only to check a few urgent emails and priorities. Let's chat more in the interview!

Your Future Team:

  • **Tech Savvy** - You embrace digital tools and aren't afraid to try new platforms.
  • **Self-Aware** - You reflect, learn, and grow-because none of us are finished products.
  • **Values Differences** - You respect all voices and perspectives.
  • **Collaborates** - You work well with others, period.
  • **Plans & Aligns** - You get stuff done-and done well.
  • **Manages Complexity** - You handle busy days with grace and clarity.

Total Rewards:

  • Loyalty Discount (yes, please!)
  • Career & development opportunities
  • Employee & Family Assistance Program
  • Benefits after 3 months available
  • Superannuation Pension Plan
  • A supportive team that actually makes work fun

Still reading? Great-now tell us about you.
Use your cover letter to tell us what you're looking for in your ideal role. Are you full-time-ready or more into the fractional vibe? Either way, we'd love to hear what makes you tick.
This posting will remain open until filled. Please upload your resume, cover letter, and three references. Having trouble uploading? You can also fill out the Work History and Education sections.
Heads up:

If selected, we'll ask for your Social Insurance Number and banking info before your first day of work, that way you can get paid!
We thank all applicants for their interest. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
