JOB DESCRIPTION:

Individual contributor responsible for the overall management of highly complex Commercial General Liability (CGL) claims. Recognized as a technical expert in the interpretation of complex or unusual policy coverages within the CGL line. Under general management direction, works within assigned limits of broad authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical complexity, judgment, and coordination. May have regional, industry segment, or company-wide scope of responsibility within area of specialty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Manages highly complex Commercial General Liability claim investigations, including coverage issues, liability, compensability, and damages. Determines when claims should be settled or litigated and implements appropriate resolution strategies. Effectively manages loss costs and claim expenses.
Manages all aspects of investigative activity or litigation on major Commercial General Liability claims, including timely and appropriate reserving. Coordinates discovery and litigation strategy with staff counsel and panel attorneys.
Negotiates highexposure and complex Commercial General Liability settlements, authorizing payment within scope of authority and ensuring costeffective resolution and timely disbursements.
Coordinates thirdparty recovery with subrogation/salvage unit as applicable.
Provides recommendations to management regarding complex Commercial General Liability claim strategies, processes, and resolution approaches.
Analyzes claims activity; prepares and presents complex Commercial General Liability claim reports to management, internal business partners, and clients.
Works closely with attorneys, account representatives, agents, medical providers, and insureds regarding the handling and disposition of complex liability claims.
Maintains current knowledge of provincial/federal regulations, industry trends, and emerging risks impacting Commercial General Liability claims.
Provides guidance and technical direction to less experienced claims staff and supports other functional areas as needed.
Ensures accurate and timely data entry reflecting claim circumstances and information critical to business outcomes.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Advanced technical expertise in Commercial General Liability claims, including complex coverage analysis and highexposure claim resolution.
Strong knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices, and procedures, applied in complex and ambiguous liability scenarios.
Advanced analytical and problemsolving skills, including the ability to evaluate claims using costbenefit and exposure analysis.
Demonstrated ability to fully comprehend complex claim facts and effectively articulate claim strategy and analysis verbally and in writing to management and business partners.
Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to manage ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, and resolve unique and challenging Commercial General Liability claims issues.
Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex files and competing projects.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other enterprise business tools, including responsible use of AIenabled technologies (such as Copilot or similar) to enhance efficiency, analysis and workflow in accordance with company policies.
Ability to adapt to change and value diverse opinions and ideas.
Ability to implement proactive claim strategies aligned with longterm business goals and objectives.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designation preferred.
Typically a minimum of eight years of claims experience, with significant exposure to complex Commercial General Liability claims.
