Job SummaryThis is an opportunity for a motivated lawyer to provide legal support to HCSC's legal team and other internal business partners supporting HCSC Pharmacy operations and programs. HCSC is the largest customer-owned health insurer in the United States, operating through its Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The ideal candidate will provide sound, actionable legal advice on regulatory and operational matters involving pharmacy program and pharmacy benefit management issues, and state and federal healthcare regulatory issues. A successful candidate will serve as a partner to our business leaders in developing adaptive strategies to support HCSC's established business and to further its growth while continually advancing HCSC's goal of expanding access to quality, cost-effective health care.
Under the direction of the Managing Counsel, Pharmacy, this position is primarily responsible for: providing legal advice, support, and coordination on more complex legal matters or projects; providing legal advice on pharmacy benefit programs and management, insurance policies, self-funded accounts, government contracts, regulatory matters, general business matters and contracts, as well as health care law and insurance law; providing and initiating legal review, analysis, and research with respect to significant and complicated legal issues; representing the company in detailed or difficult litigation and administrative proceedings; representing the company in dealings with applicable regulatory bodies and government agencies; and providing advice and guidance to less experienced attorneys as required; and keeping abreast of all pertinent laws, trends, court rulings, etc., as they relate to areas of concern to management or to issues for which legal advice is provided.
The position can be based in Richardson, Texas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Chicago Illinois; Tulsa, Oklahoma or Helena, Montana.
Please note this role is a hybrid role. This requires in-office hours 3 days a week at the respective office location.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in the state where the legal department is located.

  • 8 years experience as an attorney with demonstrated understanding/experience of the health care or insurance field.

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.

  • Negotiations and diplomacy skills.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years recent experience in health care law, pharmacy benefits law, and/or insurance law, particularly regulatory compliance and/or litigation.

  • Strong business collaboration and writing skills, including the ability to clearly provide legal counsel and solutions to complex issues.
