Job Title: Liquor Store Cashier / Stocker (Retail Sales Associate) Location: Indiana Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Job Overview The Liquor Store Cashier / Stocker ensures smooth front-end customer transactions and keeps the retail floor and beer coolers fully stocked, organized, and clean. This role requires strict compliance with Indiana state liquor laws regarding ID verification and responsible alcohol retail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service & Checkout: Operate the POS register system, process cash, debit, and credit card transactions accurately, and maintain a balanced cash drawer. Assist customers with locating products and basic beverage recommendations.
  • Compliance & ID Verification: Inspect valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification for every customer to enforce Indiana legal drinking age requirements and prevent sales to intoxicated individuals.
  • Receiving & Stocking: Unload vendor deliveries, check shipments against invoices, and stage merchandise.
  • Merchandising & Cooler Maintenance: Restock liquor shelves, wine racks, and walk-in beer coolers. Rotate stock (FIFO), face bottles/cans, build promotional displays, and verify shelf price tags.
  • Store Upkeep: Maintain store cleanliness including sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, breaking down cardboard boxes, and keeping the register area organized.
  • Inventory & Loss Prevention: Keep back-stock organized, report missing or broken inventory, and remain attentive to front-door and aisle activity.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age (Indiana requirement for handling, selling, or dispensing alcoholic beverages in package liquor stores).
  • Licensing/Permit: Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Indiana Employee Permit (issued by the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission / ATC).
  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver cases of beer, wine, and liquor weighing 40 to 50+ lbs repeatedly.
    • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and walk for entire shifts (up to 8 hours).
    • Ability to work comfortably in cold walk-in beer cooler environments for extended periods.
  • Skills: Basic arithmetic, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and reliability.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work evening shifts, weekends, and peak holiday periods.
  • Background Check: Ability to pass a standard pre-employment background check (in compliance with ATC disqualification guidelines, such as felony restrictions).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating POS cash registers in a retail, convenience, or grocery environment.
