Position Specific Description
The Insurance Portfolio Investment Analyst supports the management and oversight of the insurance company's general account investment portfolio, which includes primarily investment grade fixed income, government-backed securities, and private market investments (e.g., private credit and private equity). This role focuses on portfolio analysis, monitoring, reporting, and operational support, while developing into a broader investment professional with exposure to asset allocation, manager selection, and insurance-specific investment considerations.
The individual interfaces with external asset managers, consultants, custodians, and internal stakeholders including Accounting, Risk, Actuarial, and Finance to ensure effective portfolio management aligned with regulatory and liability-driven objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting
  • Monitor portfolio positioning relative to asset allocation targets, risk limits, and liability characteristics;
  • Track portfolio performance, attribution, and key risk metrics (e.g., duration, credit quality, liquidity);
  • Support monthly and quarterly reporting, including investment committee materials and senior management presentations;
  • Assist in preparing regulatory and statutory reporting relevant to insurance portfolios (e.g., NAIC reporting, statutory filings);
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of investment data across systems and reports.

Operations & Portfolio Management Support
  • Coordinate with internal and external parties to ensure investment activity is recorded accurately and in compliance with regulatory and accounting standards;
  • Assist with cash flow management, capital deployment, and liquidity planning;
  • Support onboarding and monitoring of private market investments, including capital calls, distributions, and documentation;
  • Maintain portfolio analytics systems and contribute to enhancements in reporting infrastructure.

Portfolio Strategy & Analytics
  • Support development and implementation of portfolio strategies aligned with insurance liabilities and capital requirements;
  • Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing to evaluate portfolio resilience under different market conditions;
  • Analyze macroeconomic and market trends and assess implications for portfolio positioning;
  • Assist in evaluating relative value across fixed income sectors and private market opportunities.

Manager Oversight & Due Diligence
  • Monitor performance and risk exposures of external managers across public and private asset classes;
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of manager performance and portfolio holdings;
  • Support due diligence on new investment opportunities, including preparation of investment memos and presentations;
  • Review legal, structural, and financial aspects of investment opportunities, particularly in private credit and private equity.

Special Projects
  • Contribute to initiatives such as portfolio optimization, ALM analysis, and technology platform enhancements;
  • Support ad hoc analyses and strategic projects as required.

Skills and Experience
  • Understanding of institutional investment management, with exposure to fixed income, equities, and private markets;
  • Knowledge of investment concepts including performance measurement, risk analysis, and portfolio construction;
  • Familiarity with investment grade credit, structured products, and government-backed securities preferred;
  • Basic understanding of insurance company investment considerations, including statutory accounting, capital requirements, and asset-liability management (P&C experience preferred);
  • Exposure to private markets (private equity, private credit) is a plus;
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including proficiency in Excel and financial modeling;
  • Knowledge of macroeconomic and capital market dynamics;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing presentations;
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

Job Overview
This position identifies, coordinates, and leads the bidding process for standard and non-standard full requirement transactions. Employees in this role manage profit and loss for a portion of the full requirements portfolio by monitoring performance, being aware of market rules and conditions, and optimizing hedge and deal positions.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Monitors and reports Profit and Loss of existing transactions, including maintenance and creation of forward price curves
  • Works with Origination and Structuring team to develop and close structured full requirement transactions
  • Manages bidding processes for assigned markets
  • Ensures full requirement activity is accurately reported
  • Creates hedge strategies for deals and remains within approved targets
  • Performs ad hoc analysis to support strategic analysis, decision making and market view, and reviews and optimizes portfolio positions
  • Develops detailed presentations for presentation to internal and external customers, including executive level management
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
