Position Title: Linux System Administrator
Location: Remote
Clearance: Secret or higher required
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Linux System Administrator to join our team supporting a critical government computer system. This role is responsible for the management, maintenance, and security of a large-scale, enterprise-level infrastructure. The environment is heavily reliant on VMware for virtualization, BMC TrueSight Server Automation (TSSA) for compliance and patching, and Ansible for robust configuration management and automation. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong background in enterprise Linux environments and a passion for automation and security.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers in both physical and virtual environments.
  • Manage the VMware vSphere infrastructure, including the deployment, and troubleshooting of virtual machines and hosts.
  • Utilize BMC TrueSight Server Automation (TSSA) to perform automated patching, ensure system compliance, and report on security configurations against government baselines (e.g., DISA STIGs).
  • Develop, maintain, and execute Ansible playbooks to automate system configurations, application deployments, and other repetitive administrative tasks.
  • Implement and maintain robust security controls, conduct vulnerability remediation, and ensure all systems are compliant with federal security standards.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues, and perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical system issues.
  • Have a current CompTIA Security+

Required Skills
  • Linux Administration 5+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator, with deep knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in an enterprise setting.
  • VMware Proficiency Strong proficiency in VMware vSphere (ESXi/vCenter) for creating, managing, and troubleshooting virtualized server environments.
  • Ansible Automation Demonstrated experience writing and maintaining complex Ansible playbooks for configuration management and infrastructure automation.
  • Security & Compliance Proven experience with system hardening, security patching, and ensuring compliance with security frameworks such as DISA STIGs.
  • Scripting Expertise High proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash or Python to automate administrative tasks and streamline operations.

Desired Skills and Qualifications
  • BMC TrueSight (TSSA) Direct hands-on experience using BMC TrueSight Server Automation for automated patch management and compliance enforcement.
  • Professional Certifications Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
