Job description

Samsung SDS America (SDSA) supports Samsung's global technology ecosystem by delivering secure, high-performance IT infrastructure and enterprise solutions across cloud, mobility, analytics, and advanced manufacturing environments.
Samsung's Taylor, Texas semiconductor fabrication facility represents one of the largest and most advanced manufacturing investments in the United States, backed by an initial $17 billion commitment to build a cutting-edge chip production hub. The site is designed to become a cornerstone of Samsung's U.S. semiconductor strategy. As part of a long-term vision to expand U.S. chip production capacity, the Taylor facility positions top engineering talent at the center of a rapidly growing technology cluster with global impact.
Position Summary:
The Senior Linux Engineer is responsible for the architecture, operation, and lifecycle management of Linux platforms and application servers supporting Samsung's semiconductor manufacturing environments. This role oversees Red Hat and Oracle Linux systems, manages patching and upgrades, leads virtualization and migration efforts. You will lead complex migration, automation, and high-availability projects while acting as the technical authority for all UNIX-based platforms. In addition to deep hands-on work, you will mentor junior staff, define best-practice standards, and partner with architecture, security, and operations teams to keep the environment robust, scalable, and secure.
This is a full-time onsite role in Taylor, TX.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead large-scale OS upgrades, migrations from legacy UNIX to modern Linux distributions, and data-center consolidation projects.
  • Build reusable automation (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform) for provisioning, patching, and configuration compliance.
  • Oversee bare-metal deployments on Dell PowerEdge, Oracle x86, and Exadata appliances.
  • Own 24 x 7 x 365 production support for critical UNIX/Linux services; drive incident resolution and post-mortem analyses.
  • Implement proactive monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, etc.) and capacity-planning processes.
  • Continuously optimize performance, security hardening, and resource utilization.
  • Deploy and maintain HA clusters (Pacemaker/Corosync, Red Hat Cluster, etc.) and multi-site disaster-recovery procedures.
  • Design, test, and maintain DR playbooks; conduct quarterly recovery drills.
  • Automate fail-over/fail-back workflows for clustered services and storage systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to Tier-1 staff and junior engineers.
  • Champion documentation standards and maintain an internal knowledge base.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience administering Linux systems in enterprise or manufacturing environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience and certifications accepted.
  • Deep expertise with Red Hat, Oracle Linux, CentOS, Rocky Linux, and related distributions.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise Linux distributions; hands-on experience with bare-metal servers (Dell PowerEdge, Oracle x86) and Oracle Exadata appliances.
  • Proven experience deploying and operating Red Hat clustering (Pacemaker/Corosync) or comparable UNIX/Linux clustering solutions.
  • Expert-level Bash/Python/Perl scripting; production use of configuration-management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
  • Proficiency with KVM/Xen/VMware and container runtimes (Docker, Podman) plus orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift).
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, high-availability environments with 24/7 operational responsibilities.
  • Strong background in the Linux storage stack (LVM, MD RAID, XFS/ext4/Btrfs) and integration with SAN/NAS solutions.
  • Experience working in fast-paced production or other relevant environment.
  • Ability to document processes with precision and lead efficient meetings that results in clear ownership and next steps.
  • Proactive communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively, both in writing and speech. Proven track record of tailoring communication styles to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US for any employer without restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work full-time onsite in Taylor, TX.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications:
  • Prior work as a UNIX Engineer (Solaris/AIX/BSD).
