Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Team oriented Senior Systems Engineer is focused on systems architecting and design. A seasoned professional with advanced knowledge of installation, configuration and management of the company's IT infrastructure and related systems, supporting complex enterprise-level applications and providing leadership within the IS infrastructure. The individual will manage a variety of complex assignments related to planning and design of systems to meet business needs, upgrades to existing systems, monitoring and escalated troubleshooting of systems, analyzing system faults and performance issues, and running diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect and resolve issues.
The individual needs experience handling multiple server networks with multiple operating systems as well as knowledge of the project life cycle emphasizing design and architecture, technical reports and documentation. The Senior Engineer will be instrumental in establishing budgets and determining ROI on future system infrastructure projects, evaluating systems to meet business needs and eventual implementation of chosen technologies. This position will supervise other members of the team and requires exceptional professionalism, communication abilities and strong technical skills.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology or other related scientific or technical discipline required; or demonstrated technical proficiency may be substituted for education requirements.
  • VMware Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MSCA), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCIPT), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), A+ or Network+, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022; Microsoft Active Directory; Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or other certification of a similar nature considered a plus.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 7+ years of progressive experience with advanced systems administration, systems design, hardware and software solution implementation and general server administration or 11 years of experience in lieu of degree
  • 7+ years' experience managing Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, UNIX/Linux based systems and support of SQL Server and Oracle Enterprise production databases,
  • 7+ years' experience with F5 Load Balancer and SolarWinds monitoring tools, configuration and support,
  • Experience with Red Hat equivalent Linux (i.e. Oracle Enterprise Linux and CentOS), Linux bash shell scripting patching Linux O/S via yum/dnf to patch repository and Linux troubleshooting skills,
  • 5+ years' experience with backup/restore management, patch management, virtual and storage migration, business continuity/disaster recovery planning, knowledge of project management,
  • Advanced work with virtualized environments, ideally in VMware and Cisco Chassis / UCS Blades Servers; experienced engineer with a good understanding of Cisco networking,
  • Proficiency with Storage Area Networks (SAN) Fiber Channel and ISCSI connectivity, and storage implementation and management, Pure storage experience preferred,
  • Experience with multiple applications and protocols, software distribution methods, client management and configurations
  • Ability to explore and apply new technologies and methodologies in a distributed environment,
  • Demonstrate initiative and possess organizational skills, effective communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with IT staff and all levels of the organization,
  • Hold others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals; trains junior admins in necessary skills needed to succeed and advance,
  • Direct the activities of contractors and consultants as needed or instructed to complete activities and tasks,
  • Develop relationships with vendor resources to evaluate and understand new technologies,
  • Fluent in English, oral and written required,
  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develop standards servers and storage streamline requests for resources
  • Develop and maintain a scalable backup solution for the virtualized and standalone environments
  • Create and execute test plans to validate infrastructure and technical systems performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement leading to an optimized environment
  • Develop and execute security standards and policies to ensure maximum security from internal as well as outside sources.
  • Ensure optimum monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of system issues and ensures that processes are in place with proper documentation and diagrams where needed
  • Take a lead role and manage projects and ensure technical and system resources are available to complete tasks as assigned
  • Provide ongoing support of the disaster recovery plan with a focus on building a secure, highly available, environment ensuring successful system restoration of data to meet defined objectives
  • Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging engineering practices; participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations; reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks
  • Manages and directs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. This includes Interviewing, training, planning, assigning and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Fosters cross-functional and cross business teamwork; builds and promotes morale; works efficiently and effectively on teams to meet customers' needs; meets all team commitments; consistent and intense commitment and willing to go above and beyond as necessary but also willing to do low profile, non-challenging work to get the project completed
  • Performs performance monitoring and provide documentation of issues and recommendations to project team.
  • Performs mentoring and training for other team members as needed.
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions

  • Manage a highly scalable, stable virtualized environment that meets current business needs and grows with organizational requirements
  • Manage and resolve issues in a timely manner, and provide proper documentation for system related issues and root cause and act as an escalation resource for complex issues
  • Work within the project life cycle with emphasis on the design and preparation of technical infrastructure requirements and related documentation including charts, diagrams/graphs to record results and validate configurations
  • Work closely with risk and security team members, assist in development/maintenance of the disaster recovery management plan and ensuring it is up-to-date and well documented
  • Keep current with new and emerging technology related to area of responsibility, participating in continuing education related training to the position.
  • Troubleshoot and restore complex technical service and equipment problems by analyzing, identifying, and diagnosing faults and symptoms using established processes and procedures and be able to professionally communicate with end users and management.
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures.
