Job Description
Linux System Engineer
  • Need 5+ years of experience in patching multiple Linux platforms Like Redhat, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Sun Solaris, especially RHEL 6 (i.e. Redhat).
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Configure/add new services as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications.
  • Perform patching with kickstart using automation scripts.
  • Proficiency in writing shell scripts, debugging errors, and modifying scripts when necessary
  • Prefer good experience on VMware , ILO and physicial servers.
  • Need to be an expert with DNS, FTP and NFS also with remote access and security.
  • Should be well aware of all patching issues related to Redhat.
  • Experience in migrating servers and upgrading servers.
  • Proficient in taking backups and performing backup steps before doing patching.
  • Previous experience on Redhat Satellite server and Spacewalk server will be required.
  • Experience in administering, installing missing packages on customer request and hand on experience on ticketing tools like BMC Remedy is very much required.
  • This project is related to patching production, dev and QA server -- you need to be available 24X7 and especially on weekends.
  • Need to be proficient in documentation especially on internal sharepoint.
