THE POSITION
The Red Hat Linux Senior Engineer provides senior-level engineering and administration support for Red Hat/Linux-based systems. The position supports monitoring, management, and integration of enterprise system management tools used to assess the operational status and performance of Control (C2) systems.


This role designs, configures, maintains, and enhances Linux-based monitoring applications and supporting infrastructure used by the contract enterprise monitoring architecture. The engineer develops and integrates custom software interfaces, maintains system monitoring tools, and ensures operational availability of mission-critical applications supporting global C2 environments.


The position operates within a classified enterprise environment supporting operations at the Pentagon and COOP site. The engineer collaborates with system administrators, database administrators, network engineers, and application teams to support the monitoring and reporting capabilities required for the mission. Responsibilities include maintaining system monitoring applications, integrating commercial and government-off-the-shelf tools, and ensuring the availability and security of Linux-based monitoring systems supporting operational command and control capabilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, integrate, and maintain Linux-based monitoring applications supporting the GCCS-J Management Center monitoring infrastructure.
  • Develop, install, operate, and maintain system monitoring applications and web-based dashboards used to monitor enterprise C2 systems.
  • Maintain Red Hat/Linux-based monitoring platforms and associated application services used to support system monitoring tools.
  • Integrate COTS and GOTS monitoring tools to support enterprise systems management and operational monitoring requirements.
  • Design, configure, and maintain monitoring tool integrations including Network Node Manager, Net Health, CA Systems Edge, EMPIRE, EMPSEC, and related enterprise monitoring platforms.
  • Develop customized software programs, scripts, and interfaces to support enterprise monitoring functions and automation of system management tasks.
  • Design, install, configure, and optimize system servers and application components supporting monitoring tools to ensure high availability and operational performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware, network, and software issues impacting monitoring systems and coordinate resolution with internal teams and vendors as required.
  • Implement software patches, hot fixes, and system upgrades in accordance with security and configuration management procedures.
  • Maintain system documentation, configuration documentation, and technical implementation procedures supporting monitoring tools and applications.
  • Perform daily system and application auditing activities to ensure operational compliance and system availability.
  • Provide technical training and knowledge transfer to government personnel and system administrators supporting monitoring tools and applications.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Ability to support Tier II/III IT Operations Support environments and participate in on-call operational support as required.
Requirements:
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility; AND,
  • Security+ Certification; AND,
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant IT engineering experience supporting enterprise software systems, systems engineering, or systems integration activities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, integrating, configuring, and maintaining enterprise software systems and system monitoring tools within Linux/UNIX environments.
  • Experience designing software architectures supporting system management, monitoring platforms, and enterprise operational environments.
  • Ability to analyze complex system requirements and develop technical solutions supporting enterprise system management functions access.

PREFERRED:

1. Linux System Administration and Engineering

  • Experience performing Linux installation including hardware identification and configuration.
  • Experience performing Linux operating system upgrades and patching.
  • Experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining enterprise applications on Linux including Apache Tomcat and Java-based applications.
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration troubleshooting techniques including system logs and performance analysis.
  • Experience creating and forwarding logs and performing log analytics to troubleshoot system and application issues.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages, specifically Bash, to automate administrative and operational tasks.

2. Security and Compliance

  • Experience applying server certificates, including knowledge of certificate authorities and certificate acquisition processes.
  • Experience downloading, reviewing, and applying DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to Linux systems.

3. Virtualization and Infrastructure

  • Experience installing and configuring VMware environments, including hardware configuration, BIOS settings, and firmware upgrades.
  • Experience performing Linux and VMware operating system upgrades when updates become available.
  • Familiarity with VMware virtual infrastructure administration supporting enterprise systems.

4. Storage and Enterprise Platform Support

  • Experience with NetApp storage administration, including creating and mapping volumes to systems.
  • Experience supporting enterprise storage architectures integrated with Linux environments.

5. Enterprise Linux Management Tools

  • Experience creating repository data (repodata) and managing Linux package repositories.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Satellite Server for enterprise patching and system management.
