Job description

Title: AWS Cloud Engineer
Location: Plantation, FL
Duration: 6-month contract to hire
Compensation: 50-60/hr

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our AWS cloud infrastructure while also serving as a senior generalist across our broader IT infrastructure, including Windows and Linux server environments, networking, identity, and endpoint security. This role blends hands-on cloud architecture and automation with day-to-day systems administration, taking ownership of both our cloud and on-premises environments.
The ideal candidate is passionate about modernizing infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code and automation, while also being comfortable diagnosing and resolving complex issues across servers, networks, and endpoints. This role also mentors junior cloud engineers, systems administrators, and technical support specialists, and partners closely with architects and engineers on proofs of concept and key infrastructure initiatives.
โ€ข Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS best practices
โ€ข Implement and manage AWS multi-account environments via Control Tower
โ€ข Administer cloud-based infrastructure across AWS (primary) and our minor Azure footprint, including instance management, storage scaling, and cost monitoring
โ€ข Assist in the transition from traditional server-based architectures to serverless solutions using AWS Lambda
โ€ข Automate infrastructure deployment and application delivery using GitHub Actions and CI/CD pipelines
โ€ข Manage and maintain Windows and Linux server environments, both on-premises and in the cloud
โ€ข Manage user lifecycles, permissions, and security groups using Okta and local Active Directory
โ€ข Administer endpoint management through Kandji (macOS) and ManageEngine Endpoint Central (Windows)
โ€ข Support integration of infrastructure with Okta for identity and access management, including Conditional Access policies
โ€ข Support the rollout and ongoing administration of Zscaler for secure network access
โ€ข Coordinate with our SecOps team to ensure SentinelOne coverage extends across servers and endpoints
โ€ข Configure and manage core AWS networking and edge security services (VPC, Transit Gateway, Cloud WAN, ELB, WAF), as well as office networking components including firewalls, VLANs, and hardware inventory
โ€ข Administer and support database technologies including MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL
โ€ข Execute routine security updates, firmware updates, and vulnerability patching across servers and network hardware
โ€ข Monitor and test backup operations, ensuring DR protocols are functional and meet RPO/RTO targets
โ€ข Migrate workloads from existing environments into new AWS accounts, ensuring minimal downtime
โ€ข Diagnose hardware, software, network, and system issues, documenting resolutions and assessing business impact
โ€ข Monitor and optimize infrastructure for performance, security, and cost efficiency, implementing improvements as needed
โ€ข Architect solutions based on business processes and best practices, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
โ€ข Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for infrastructure issues
โ€ข Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of our infrastructure architecture, procedures, and SOPs
Required skills:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Cloud Engineer, Systems Administrator, or similar infrastructure role in an enterprise environment
  • Experience mentoring/ leading a team
  • Hands-on production experience with AWS
  • Bachelor's Degree in comp sci, IT, Engineering, or equivalent

Nice to have skills:
  • Any AWS certs
