A Lineman Helper assists journeyman linemen in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical power systems and telecommunications lines. They handle tools, transport materials, and ensure a safe work environment. This role requires physical strength, awareness of safety protocols, and a willingness to work in various weather conditions. Lineman Helpers often climb poles, work at heights, and support crews in high-voltage settings. It is an entry-level position that provides hands-on experience for those pursuing a career as a lineman.
To thrive as a Lineman Helper, you need a solid understanding of physical labor, basic electrical knowledge, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, power equipment, and adherence to safety protocols—such as OSHA or CPR certification—is highly beneficial. Strong teamwork, communication skills, and reliability help individuals excel in this supporting role. These abilities ensure the safe and efficient installation and maintenance of power lines while supporting experienced linemen in often demanding environments.
Lineman Helpers assist experienced linemen with installing, repairing, and maintaining power lines and related equipment. You can expect to prepare materials, hand tools, and equipment at job sites, as well as support in setting up safety measures and clearing work areas. The role often involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, handling heavy or cumbersome materials, and occasionally working at heights. Lineman Helpers typically work as part of a team and receive on-the-job training, which is a great pathway toward becoming a journeyman lineman in the future.

Bandera Electric Cooperative proudly distributes electricity to members across seven counties in Central Texas. The BECFiber division, began offering 100% fiber broadband in 2017 and currently provides fiber internet service to members and subscribers in eight counties in the Texas Hill Country.

Our Operations Team is looking for a Journeyman Lineman. The Journeyman Lineman-1 position is accountable for ensuring that electric services for the Cooperative are safely and efficiently maintained for all members. Responsibilities include training and mentoring members of the construction crew to safely perform work, leading and directing Apprentices with constructing, repairing, and maintaining the Cooperative's electrical distribution infrastructure, and ensuring all equipment is maintained while exemplifying safe work practices for all electrical personnel. JY Lineman-1 are required to complete training and demonstrate competency in tasks outlined in the Cooperative's Lineman Progression Program to obtain certification from the Department of Labor.JY Lineman-1 will work under direct or indirect supervision, handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses working knowledge of subject matter. Typicallyrequires accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program.
