What You Will Do
Join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world.
The Weapons Production directorate (ALDWP) is seeking highly motivated First Line Manager to support important national defense and space exploration missions at LANL, working in the Power Supply Production (PSP) Division. As a highly skilled first line manager in PSP you will help lead and execute numerous key missions to support our nation's security endeavors as we produce the next generation of nuclear engineers and scientists.
This role works in a team environment within LANL's nuclear facility to manufacture product, support material movement and support glove box operations. The majority of daily work is "hands-on" glove box work in support of plutonium processing. Processes at Los Alamos National Lab are performed using detailed operating procedures and work requires extensive knowledge and expertise following Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety and environmental compliance requirements.
Reporting to your Group Leader, you will provide management and leadership to various teams of 10 to 15 employees, consisting of engineers, scientists, and technicians. As the First Line Manager, you will have responsibility, authority and accountability to execute work that supports programmatic milestones and deliverables while setting the standards for excellence and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Planning, organizing, and defining strategic objectives.
- Delivering quality products and/or services; enforcing adherence to quality standards; achieving balance between the need to meet both productivity goals and quality standards.
- Ensuring administrative and operating procedures are current, understood, and adhered to before releasing work.
- Working with facility operations staff to execute work safely, securely, with quality, and in compliance with nuclear facility requirements.
- Ensuring direct daily oversight of work, workers and the work environment.
- Serving as the safety responsible line manager over people, equipment, and processes.
- Ongoing communications with line management reporting on work status, deliverables and commitments.
- Directing and overseeing work performed by employees including "on the floor" supervision.
- Mentoring and motivating peers.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Management: Experience in managing people and/or projects, including planning, organizing, and resource management, as well as demonstrated experience creating work scope, schedules, budgets, coordinating work activities, and tracking progress.

Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers. Demonstrated communication of technical issues and solutions to employees, peers and upper management.

Desired Qualifications:
Nuclear Experience: Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution of work.

Notes to Applicants:
- For full consideration, please submit a comprehensive resume or CV reflective of your relevant experience to the job requirements and desired skills stated above.
- Evaluation of applications will commence immediately.
