We're seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to support butane and hydrocarbons testing operations in our Freeport, TX lab.


This is a hands-on, entry-level laboratory role focused on gas chromatography (GC), ion chromatography (IC), and vapor pressure (RVP) testing of butane and hydrocarbon samples, where you'll gain experience operating analytical instrumentation, supporting QA/QC processes, and working with ASTM/API methods and LIMS systems. In a fast-paced, high-throughput environment, you'll build practical skills in analytical testing, data integrity, sample preparation, and laboratory operations, while working with industry-standard equipment used in oil & gas and hydrocarbon testing laboratories.



Please note: This position consists of 12-hour rotating shifts, working 4 consecutive days on followed by 4 days off, with shifts alternating every 4 weeks between day and night schedules.



What You'll Do

  • Perform analytical testing on butane and hydrocarbon samples using ASTM, API, and internal methods
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation such as gas chromatography (GC), ion chromatography (IC), and vapor pressure (RVP)
  • Ensure accurate data entry, validation, and reporting in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Review results and identify out-of-specification (OOS) conditions
  • Support QA/QC processes, audits, and laboratory quality standards
  • Follow all safety protocols for handling flammable and pressurized hydrocarbons
  • Maintain proper sample handling, labeling, and chain of custody procedures
  • Assist with general lab operations including inventory, housekeeping, and cross-training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Process Technology, Laboratory Technology, or a related technical program designed for petrochemical, refining, or industrial laboratory careers strongly preferred
  • 1+ years of analytical laboratory experience, preferably in hydrocarbon, gas testing, chemical, or oil & gas laboratory environments
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and test methods such as gas chromatography (GC), ion chromatography (IC), and vapor pressure (RVP) strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computer applications
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is a plus
