Job description

Job Title: Laboratory and Operations AssistantJob Description

The Laboratory and Operations Assistant performs a variety of laboratory tests and analyses to support quality, process, environmental control, and product development activities. This role focuses on determining the chemical and physical characteristics of solid, liquid, and gaseous materials, while ensuring that all work follows prescribed standards, procedures, and unit quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests according to established standards, methods, and procedures to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, and gaseous materials.

  • Coordinate and analyze incoming raw material, in-process, and final product samples, determining the disposition of these materials in line with unit quality standards and laboratory procedures.

  • Collect, deliver, and dispose of unit samples, including performing sample collection that requires the use of a full-face respirator and breathing air when necessary.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of all sample analyses to ensure traceability and compliance with quality requirements.

  • Perform daily CMS checks and other routine monitoring activities to support continuous quality and process control.

  • Assist with online analytical maintenance and calibration for unit equipment to ensure reliable and accurate analytical measurements.

  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation, including routine upkeep, basic troubleshooting, and coordination of more extensive maintenance when required.

  • Use laboratory and computer systems, including LIMS and analytical software, to enter, manage, and retrieve test data and reports.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with production personnel and leadership regarding sample results, issues, and any deviations from standard conditions.

  • Perform additional tasks and support activities outside of the above accountabilities as needed to meet evolving laboratory and production process needs.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related science discipline, or three years of equivalent laboratory, instrumentation and electrical (I&E), or industry experience.

  • Working knowledge of laboratory equipment, including understanding of its function, proper use, and basic maintenance requirements.

  • Good knowledge of quality management principles and practices within a laboratory or production environment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with management and production personnel, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work with computers and common software tools to record, analyze, and report data.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of sample handling and equipment-related tasks.

  • Ability to perform tasks under breathing air and to safely use a full-face respirator when required for sample collection and related activities.

  • Experience in a science discipline or 3+ years of equivalent laboratory or industry experience, preferably in chemistry, biology, or GMP-related environments.

  • Working knowledge of LabWorks LIMS System.

  • Working knowledge of Gas Chromatography techniques and instrumentation.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for data entry, documentation, and reporting.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a laboratory environment that supports production and quality control activities. The role follows a repeating two-week day-shift cycle: one week on a pattern of working and off days, then a second week with a complementary pattern, with no night shift involved. Typical hours are 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position involves regular interaction with laboratory instruments, computer systems, and analytical equipment, including LabWorks LIMS and Gas Chromatography. Some tasks require working under breathing air and using a full-face respirator for safe sample collection. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
