Job description

Do you thrive on complex, multi-million-dollar projects and take pride in delivering them on time and on budget? Are you looking to work with a team that values integrity, accountability, and straight-up authenticity? Do you believe great teams outperform individuals—every time?

That’s how our Ottawa team operates—and we’re looking for someone who fits.

At Plan Group, you’ll take on landmark, high-impact projects that are shaping the future of the nation’s capital. As part of #TeamPlanGroup, you’ll join a growing, nationally recognized integrated construction company where your work matters—and your career grows with it.

About the Role
As a Technical Project Manager – Lighting & Controls, you will take full ownership of your system scope from start to finish—from procurement through to commissioning and closeout. You’ll lead vendors, manage performance, and ensure your scope is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. You will be accountable for delivering lighting and controls systems that meet project requirements for cost, schedule, quality, and performance—without gaps between design, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

Roles & Responsibilities: Technical Project Manager – Lighting & Controls

  • Own the full lifecycle delivery of the lighting and controls scope, from design review and procurement through installation, commissioning, and turnover
  • Lead all technical aspects of lighting and controls, including specification review, submittals, system integration, and issue resolution during design and construction
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies, including vendor selection, PO issuance, and performance management
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships, ensuring alignment with project requirements, schedule, and quality expectations
  • Plan and coordinate installation activities with field supervision to ensure safe, efficient, and sequenced execution
  • Drive quality, testing, and commissioning, ensuring systems perform as specified and are delivered fully functional at turnover
  • Monitor scope performance against schedule and budget; identify risks, constraints, and opportunities early and act to mitigate impacts
  • Lead change management within your scope, including identification, pricing support, and execution of changes and extras
  • Support project planning and execution, including kickoff, short interval planning, and coordination with other system leads
  • Maintain clear communication and reporting on progress, risks, and key milestones within your scope
  • Promote and lead Health & Safety across all aspects of your work in line with Plan Group standards
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, vendors, and the broader project team

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical construction, with strong expertise in lighting and/or controls systems
  • Holds (or able to obtain) Government of Canada Secret (Level II) Security Clearance as required for federal projects
  • Proven experience owning and delivering system-specific scopes on large commercial and institutional projects
  • Electrical Engineering degree/diploma or equivalent trade experience considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (OBC/NBCC, CEC/OESC, CSA, ULC, etc.)
  • Experience with procurement, vendor management, and system commissioning
  • Ability to bridge technical detail with project execution and coordination
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam and Procore considered an asset
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to lead within a multi-disciplinary team
