Description of Duties: Under the direction of the Theatre Technician, provides production-specific technical leadership on assigned calls: Serves as technical support on assigned productions, rentals, and campus events, including load-in, technical rehearsal, performance, and load-out. Reads and interprets light plots, ground plans, rigging plots, channel hookups, and production paperwork; translates them into work assignments and call schedules

Prepares, hangs, focuses, cables, and strikes lighting, audio, video, rigging, and scenic elements for assigned events. Serves as deck supervisor during technical rehearsals and live performances: directs backstage crew, maintains headset and cue communication, monitors scene change and traffic safety in low light, and resolves technical problems in progress without interrupting the performance. Supervises and directs student technicians and temporary crew on assigned calls, including task assignment, pacing, quality check, and enforcement of safe work practices.

Develops crew schedules and assignment sheets for assigned productions, defines crew responsibilities across the run, and confirms coverage for each call. Operates and maintains counterweight fly system elements as installed, including batten loading, weight redistribution, load balancing, arbor and line set inspection, and lockrail discipline. Operates aerial work platforms, personnel lifts, and material lifts in accordance with manufacturer requirements and operator certification.

Programs, tests, and operates show control for assigned productions, including lighting console cue stacks, playback software, and network synchronization between control systems; verifies show control reliability before technical rehearsal. Sets up and operates audio, video, and projection systems for assigned events, including signal routing, networked media distribution, and system checks before each call. Maintains a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in the stage, shop, and storage spaces during and after assigned calls.

Assists with orientation and technical training of student technicians on venue-specific equipment, procedures, and safe work practices. Performs other production-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for technical theatrical event experience (set construction, set design, lighting design, sound engineering/design, rigging, technical direction, or production management); or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of lighting or sound demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts and terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with technical theater or event management. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of stage rigging.

Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders at work at a height of 60 feet. Ability to work on feet for extended periods.

Able to work days, evenings, and weekends as required. Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others on a production call. Desired Qualifications: Prior experience as an assistant technical director, master electrician, head carpenter, or equivalent lead position.

ETC Eos family console programming and operation. Experience Yamaha DM7 audio consoles. Aerial work platform operator certification.

Vectorworks, AutoCAD, or comparable drafting proficiency. QLab or comparable playback software. Experience supervising student employees in an educational setting.
