Light Packaging information

What is light packaging?

Light packaging refers to the process of assembling, wrapping, labeling, and preparing small or lightweight products for distribution or retail sale. Workers in light packaging roles typically handle items such as cosmetics, food products, electronics, or small parts, ensuring they are properly packed according to company and safety standards. This work usually takes place in warehouses or manufacturing facilities and does not involve heavy lifting or operating large machinery. Attention to detail, speed, and the ability to work on your feet are important skills for this job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a light packaging worker?

To thrive as a Light Packaging Worker, you need attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow safety and quality guidelines, typically with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with basic packaging machinery, labeling systems, and inventory tracking software is often required. Reliability, teamwork, and effective communication help individuals excel in fast-paced environments. These skills ensure accurate order fulfillment, maintain product quality, and support efficient warehouse operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a light packaging role, and how can new employees overcome them?

A common challenge in light packaging is maintaining speed and accuracy while performing repetitive tasks, especially during peak production periods. New employees may also need time to adapt to standing for extended periods and collaborating efficiently with team members to keep workflows smooth. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to pay close attention during training, ask questions when unsure, and communicate openly with supervisors about workload or ergonomic concerns. Staying organized and taking scheduled breaks can also help maintain productivity and comfort throughout the shift.

Job description

Job Description

AltaGas - Specialist, Supply Fundamentals

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Planning and Analysis, the Specialist will play a key role in developing AltaGas's in-house long-term outlook of liquids and gas supply in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin ("WCSB").

This role is responsible for building and owning supply forecasts; integrating data from multiple sources; generating insights that inform capital allocation, commercial decisions, and long-range planning; and collaborating with the Commercial and Business Development teams to ensure that analyses and outputs support their building plans, priorities and actions. The successful candidate will combine strong analytical capabilities with a deep understanding of energy markets to translate complex data into clear, decision-ready insights which will directly influence the company's growth.

You will:

  • Build and maintain a long-term WCSB supply forecast model for liquids and gas
  • Develop bottom-up WCSB oil and gas production forecast models incorporating upstream activity, well breakeven prices, reservoir life, and basin dynamics
  • Create and maintain proprietary delineations and well type curves for the key WCSB resource plays
  • Aggregate and reconcile data across multiple sources, including internal and third-party datasets, to develop a "single source of truth" for supply
  • Develop multiple supply scenarios to assess the impact of upstream development plans, infrastructure buildout, and commodity pricing signals
  • Gather market intelligence on planned upstream oil and gas drilling activities through reviewing company press releases and presentations
  • Stay informed on technological advancements in resource extraction techniques and industry regulatory changes to help guide forecasting assumptions
  • Maintain databases and tools that underpin ongoing forecasting and strategic work
  • Partner with the Commercial and Business Development teams to align forecasts with real-world insights and to support growth opportunities
  • Support executive decision-making on capital allocation and long-range planning by developing clear and compelling materials to communicate forecasts and insights
  • Work on other related forecasting and analytical deliverables as they arise in the normal course of business

You have:

  • 10+ years of experience in upstream, midstream, energy, or related analytical roles (e.g., strategy, planning, commercial, research, or consulting)
  • Strong understanding of the WCSB and North American oil and gas industry
  • Familiarity with key industry data sources (e.g., AER, BCER, Petrinex, CER, and third-party forecasters such as Wood Mackenzie)
  • Advanced Excel skills with demonstrated experience building complex, bottom-up models (production, supply-demand balances, or financial models)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to own and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify inconsistencies, investigate root causes, and develop solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly and concisely
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and at building strong relationships
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • P.Eng., CFA, MBA, or other relevant advanced designation is considered an asset
  • Experience using geoSCOUT or EVA is considered an asset

Why AltaGas?

AltaGas offers a unique opportunity to be part of a company where market intelligence and strategic planning directly influence growth decisions. I'm excited by the chance to leverage data, forecasting, and industry insights to support long-term planning and capital allocation, while working alongside teams that are shaping the future of the Western Canadian energy sector.
