Light Packaging information

What is light packaging?

Light packaging refers to the process of assembling, wrapping, labeling, and preparing small or lightweight products for distribution or retail sale. Workers in light packaging roles typically handle items such as cosmetics, food products, electronics, or small parts, ensuring they are properly packed according to company and safety standards. This work usually takes place in warehouses or manufacturing facilities and does not involve heavy lifting or operating large machinery. Attention to detail, speed, and the ability to work on your feet are important skills for this job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a light packaging worker?

To thrive as a Light Packaging Worker, you need attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow safety and quality guidelines, typically with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with basic packaging machinery, labeling systems, and inventory tracking software is often required. Reliability, teamwork, and effective communication help individuals excel in fast-paced environments. These skills ensure accurate order fulfillment, maintain product quality, and support efficient warehouse operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a light packaging role, and how can new employees overcome them?

A common challenge in light packaging is maintaining speed and accuracy while performing repetitive tasks, especially during peak production periods. New employees may also need time to adapt to standing for extended periods and collaborating efficiently with team members to keep workflows smooth. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to pay close attention during training, ask questions when unsure, and communicate openly with supervisors about workload or ergonomic concerns. Staying organized and taking scheduled breaks can also help maintain productivity and comfort throughout the shift.

Job description

Job Description

AltaGas - Advisor, EHS (REEF)

You'll join AltaGas at a pivotal moment supporting the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) as it transitions from commissioning into full operations. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a major Canadian energy asset at the ground level, shaping how safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence come to life day-to-day. We're looking for someone who is hands-on, curious, and motivated to grow. While experience matters, we're equally focused on finding the right person - someone who brings strong judgment, a proactive mindset, and a genuine commitment to building safe and efficient operations. This role will evolve. Early on, you'll be immersed in commissioning, start-up, and contractor coordination. Over time, you'll grow into a core EHS partner supporting steady-state operations across marine export and rail offloading.

What You'll Do

  • Be a visible, trusted presence in the field, supporting safe work during commissioning and ongoing operations

  • Support the execution and evolution of AltaGas' EHS programs, procedures, and standards

  • Lead safety conversations - toolbox talks, orientations, and day-to-day engagement with the workforce

  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and contractors to ensure safe, compliant execution of work

  • Conduct field inspections, audits, and observations, and help drive corrective actions to completion

  • Support incident response and investigation, including root cause analysis and learnings

  • Contribute to emergency preparedness planning and participate in drills and exercises

  • Support environmental compliance and field execution of site environmental plans

  • Assist with regulatory reporting, documentation, and engagement as required

  • Help ensure strong site security practices and access controls

What You Bring

  • 1-3 years of EHS experience in an industrial, construction, or operational setting

  • A practical, solutions-oriented mindset and ability to operate independently in the field

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and build trust with diverse stakeholders

  • A willingness to learn, adapt, and grow in a fast-paced, evolving environment

  • Exposure to energy, marine, rail, or regulated environments is an asset - but not required

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field (preferred)

Why Join

  • Work at one of Canada's most important energy export facilities, connecting Canadian energy to global markets

  • Play a key role from commissioning through to full operations, with real influence on how EHS is embedded

  • Gain exposure across marine, rail, and federally regulated operations with strong development potential over time

This position offers a base salary range of $84,000 to $105,800 annually, based on experience, education, and skills. AltaGas also provides a competitive relocation allowance and a comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off starting on day one.
