What is a lift engineer?

Lift engineers are professionals who specialize in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modernization of lifts (elevators) and escalators. They ensure that these systems operate safely and efficiently in various buildings, such as offices, residential complexes, and shopping centers. Lift engineers may work on both mechanical and electrical components, conduct safety inspections, and troubleshoot technical issues. Their expertise is crucial for compliance with safety regulations and for minimizing downtime of lift systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lift engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lift Engineer, you need strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge, usually backed by an engineering diploma or relevant apprenticeship. Familiarity with lift-specific systems, diagnostic tools, and certifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and customer service skills help you stand out in this position. These competencies ensure lifts are installed, maintained, and repaired safely and efficiently, minimizing downtime and ensuring user safety.

What are some common challenges faced by lift engineers in their daily work, and how can they be addressed?

Lift Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex mechanical or electrical faults, working in confined spaces, and ensuring compliance with strict safety regulations. Effective communication with building managers and other trades is crucial to minimize downtime during repairs or maintenance. Staying updated with the latest industry standards and regularly attending training can help Lift Engineers address these challenges efficiently and maintain high safety and performance standards.

What is the difference between Lift Engineer vs Lift Technician?

AspectLift EngineerLift Technician
CertificationsRelevant engineering qualifications, safety certificationsTechnical certifications, safety training
Work EnvironmentDesign, installation, and maintenance of lifts in various settingsRoutine maintenance and repairs of lifts and escalators
Employer & Industry UsageConstruction, manufacturing, engineering firmsBuilding maintenance, elevator service companies

Lift Engineers typically focus on designing, installing, and overseeing lift systems, requiring engineering qualifications. Lift Technicians mainly perform maintenance and repairs, often holding technical certifications. Both roles work in similar environments and industries, but Lift Engineers are more involved in the planning and installation phases, while Lift Technicians handle ongoing servicing.

How much do lift engineers get paid?

Lift engineers typically earn between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Senior or specialized lift engineers can earn higher salaries, especially if they work in maintenance, installation, or inspection roles requiring technical skills and safety knowledge.

How much do lift engineers make in America?

Lift engineers in America typically earn an average salary ranging from $50,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience, certifications, and location. Skilled lift engineers who work with complex systems or hold specialized certifications may earn higher wages and additional benefits.

Is being a lift engineer hard?

Lift engineering is a technically demanding role that requires understanding complex mechanical and electrical systems, often involving troubleshooting and maintenance of elevators and lifts. The job can involve working in confined spaces, at heights, and following strict safety protocols, which may pose physical and mental challenges. Certification and ongoing training are typically necessary to ensure safety and compliance.

What do you do as a lift engineer?

A lift engineer installs, maintains, and repairs elevators, escalators, and other lifting equipment to ensure safety and proper operation. They perform inspections, troubleshoot issues, and may work with control systems and safety standards, often requiring technical certifications and adherence to safety protocols.

Description

Gas Lift Product Engineering Manager

Position Summary

Endurance Lift Solutions is seeking an experienced Gas Lift Product Engineering Manager to lead the engineering development and manufacturing scale-up of a growing gas lift product line. This role will serve as a critical technical leadership position responsible for product design, manufacturing engineering, reliability improvement, quality standardization, and long-term product strategy across gas lift valves, mandrels, flow-control equipment, and related artificial lift technologies. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with real-world manufacturing and field experience - someone capable of improving both product reliability and manufacturing scalability while helping establish a premium, US-manufactured gas lift platform. This is a high-impact opportunity to help build and shape a rapidly expanding artificial lift division with direct influence on product direction, manufacturing standards, and future technology initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

Product Engineering & Development

  • Lead engineering development of gas lift valves, mandrels, and related completion equipment
  • Support new product development initiatives focused on performance, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Develop and improve mechanical designs, seal systems, flow paths, trim materials, and erosion-resistant features
  • Evaluate product performance and implement design improvements based on field feedback and failure analysis
  • Assist with development of next-generation optimization and automation initiatives tied to artificial lift systems

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develop manufacturing specifications, assembly procedures, and inspection standards
  • Support machining tolerance development and manufacturability improvements
  • Work closely with operations and manufacturing teams to improve production efficiency and repeatability
  • Assist in fixture development, process standardization, and workflow optimization
  • Coordinate with vendors, machine shops, coating providers, and outside manufacturing partners

Quality & Reliability

  • Support root-cause failure analysis and corrective action initiatives
  • Improve pressure integrity, sealing reliability, and long-term valve performance
  • Develop quality standards and technical acceptance criteria
  • Support testing procedures, validation programs, and reliability improvement efforts
  • Assist with material selection and sour-service compatibility considerations

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a technical resource for field operations, sales teams, and customers
  • Support troubleshooting and operator-facing technical discussions
  • Mentor engineering and technical personnel as the division grows
  • Assist in development of engineering documentation, drawings, BOMs, and revision control systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of gas lift engineering, manufacturing, or product development experience
  • Strong understanding of gas lift valves, mandrels, unloading behavior, and artificial lift systems
  • Experience supporting oilfield manufacturing and precision machining environments
  • Familiarity with NACE standards, sour-service applications, and pressure-containing equipment
  • Experience with reliability improvement, failure analysis, and manufacturing process optimization
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with practical field troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, growth-oriented environment

Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred Background

  • Gas lift manufacturing
  • Artificial lift product development
  • Flow-control or valve manufacturing
  • Downhole completion equipment
  • Oilfield precision manufacturing
  • High-pressure or erosive service applications

Why Join Endurance Lift Solutions

  • Opportunity to help build a premier gas lift product platform from the ground floor
  • Significant autonomy and direct influence on engineering and manufacturing direction
  • Backed by established US-based manufacturing infrastructure
  • Fast-growing artificial lift organization with long-term expansion objectives
  • High visibility role with direct interaction across leadership, operations, and customers
