Lifeguard / Swim Instructor
The City of Twin Falls is accepting applications for part-time Aquatics positions, including Lifeguard and Swim Instructor. This is an open recruitment intended to support staffing needs throughout the year, including fall, winter, spring, and summer programming.
Aquatics employees help provide safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experiences for patrons and participants at City aquatic facilities. Available Positions
Lifeguard
As a Lifeguard for the City of Twin Falls, you will help keep aquatic facilities safe, clean, welcoming, and enjoyable. In this role, you will actively monitor pool activities, respond to emergencies, enforce pool rules, and promote water safety.
You will work closely with fellow lifeguards, pool supervisors, swim instructors, and recreation staff while using sound judgment, teamwork, and strong communication skills to help ensure every patron has a safe and positive experience.
Swim Instructor
As a Swim Instructor for the City of Twin Falls, you will help participants of varying ages and abilities build confidence, develop swim skills, and learn water safety. In this role, you will teach swim techniques, adapt instruction to meet individual needs, and create a positive, encouraging, and structured learning environment.
You will work closely with fellow instructors, lifeguards, pool supervisors, and recreation staff while using patience, strong communication, and teamwork to support a safe and successful learning experience.
What You'll Do
Depending on the position assigned, duties may include:
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in and around the pool
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations
  • Perform preventive lifeguarding and enforce pool rules
  • Recognize signs of distress or unsafe behavior in the water
  • Administer first aid and assist with emergency response procedures
  • Teach swim techniques, strokes, and water safety skills
  • Adapt lesson plans to meet individual skill levels and learning goals
  • Assess swimmer progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Promote a safe, positive, and encouraging environment
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patrons, participants, parents, and coworkers
  • Work as part of a team to support daily pool operations
  • Complete assigned tasks, including basic cleaning and facility upkeep
  • Listen to feedback and apply it to improve performance
  • Perform related duties as needed
Pay
  • Lifeguard with availability before 3:00 PM: $15.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Lifeguard with availability after 3:00 PM: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Public Swim Instructor: $16.00 per hour
  • Private Swim Instructor: $20.00 per hour
Schedule
  • Part-time opportunities available
  • Fall, winter, spring, and summer availability may be needed
  • 19 - 39 hours per week, depending on position, availability, and department needs
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required
  • Saturday and Sunday availability may be required for some assignments

  • Be able to complete all required pre-employment training, testing, or certification requirements
Additional requirements may apply depending on the position:
Lifeguard
  • Ability to pass a pre-lifeguard training swim test
  • Ability to successfully complete required lifeguard training and certification requirements
Swim Instructor
  • Previous competitive swimming, lifeguarding, or instructional swim experience preferred
  • Ability to pass a pre-swim instructor training swim test
  • Ability to successfully complete required swim instructor training and certification requirements
Pre-Employment Training
Pre-employment training may be required and will be provided at no cost to selected candidates. Training requirements may vary based on the position and department needs.
Training may include:
  • Swim pre-test
  • Lifeguard training
  • Swim instructor training
  • Practical skills assessment
  • Written examination
  • Other position-specific training or certification requirements

Successful completion of required training and testing may be required before beginning work.
Training Schedule
Training dates and times will vary based on position, season, and department needs. Selected candidates will receive additional information regarding required training, certification requirements, and available training sessions.
Work Environment
These positions work primarily in an indoor aquatic facility, with outdoor work or activities depending on the season, program, and facility needs. Work is performed in and around swimming pools and may involve exposure to water, humidity, wet or slippery surfaces, pool chemicals, noise, varying temperatures, and fast-paced public recreation activities.
These positions require the ability to communicate effectively, observe pool activities, respond quickly to safety concerns or emergencies, enforce facility rules, provide instruction or assistance to patrons, complete basic cleaning and facility upkeep, and work as part of a team. Employees must have sufficient mobility, stamina, and swimming ability to perform assigned duties, participate in required training, and respond appropriately to operational or emergency needs.
