Job Description

The Design Process Engineer III is responsible for leading the design for a defined scope of a project such as an area or series of unit operations or systems. The Process Engineer III is responsible for managing the scope, budget and schedule under their purview. The unit operations, area and systems could range from small to medium size projects of a complexity commensurate with the experience level. The Process Engineer III is expected to communicate effectively and frequently with the client to identify the design requirements, translate those requirements into scope, and document the open issues, project decisions and actions required to consistently advance the design. The individual is expected to be able identify departures from contracted scope, changes to design direction and to elevate, as required, to the Discipline Lead or Project Manager.

**We are open to providing relocation assistance for qualified candidates. This position operates in a hybrid work model, which requires the employee to live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Atlanta, GA location and report onsite as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Frequently communicates and coordinates with internal and external architects and engineers, clients, construction managers, trade partners and vendors.
  • Manages multiple complex tasks, establishes priorities and directs the work of others. The Engineer may work independently or at the direction of the Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Continues development of internal and external technical networks.
  • Establishes trusted relationships with clients, vendors and other external counterparts.
  • Supports activities outside of their team such as Technical Advancement, Vertical Markets and other leadership opportunities.
  • Supports the generation of deliverables or participates in activities which require more experience, deeper understanding or involve more complexity such as:
    • Technical Bid Tabulations
    • Vendor Package Management
    • Factory Acceptance Testing
    • Risk Assessments
    • HAZOP/HCCP/Etc.
    • 3D Model Review and Coordination
    • Prepare Sequence of Operations and review Functional Specifications
  • Participates in cross-discipline squad checks and discipline checks for small projects of intermediate complexity and drives overall project quality.
  • Provides mentorship to junior discipline and design staff.
  • Leads project system design programming and planning with support from Lead or Senior Engineer.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in discipline-specific field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operating company, design firm, AE firm, or related industry 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing P&IDs, process layouts, and design delvierables 
  • Intermediate experience with applicable Industry and Regulatory Guidance and statutory building codes

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT or PE is preferred
  • Highly proficient with performing complex engineering tasks with limited supervision
  • Experience coordinating and managing a design within a project team or with construction trade partners, and vendors
  • Experience with supporting construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports
  • Basic experience with commissioning, startup, qualification, operating or troubleshooting issues with process systems
