Description
The Excel Center - Northern Indiana is a high-quality, free, public high school for adult learners 18 and older. We provide coursework toward completing the required credits for students to earn an Indiana Core 40 diploma (not a TASC/GED/HSE program). Our students benefit from a structured learning environment with direct/ face-to-face instruction, an accelerated format, small classes, and individualized attention that meets the unique needs of adult learners. All students are assigned a life coach providing academic and personal counseling to support students pursuing their goals. Our staff has a significant impact on the lives of students seeking a second chance to change their lives. The Excel Center also requires students to earn industry-recognized certificates and/or dual credit college courses. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative team to assist in this endeavor.
The Special Education Coordinator will hold primary responsibility for overseeing and leading the implementation of Special Education services across the Michiana Excel Center network, which includes multiple campuses. This individual will provide direct support to Special Education teachers, ensure the quality and compliance of all IEPs, and play a critical leadership role in shaping and maintaining high-quality Special Education services. While this role may involve limited direct instruction, its primary focus is on program coordination, staff oversight, and compliance assurance.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Provide guidance, support, and oversight to all Special Education teachers in the Michiana Excel Center network
โ€ข Review IEPs written by staff across the region for accuracy, compliance, and quality
โ€ข Assist with professional development and coaching to ensure best practices in Special Education are implemented across all campuses
โ€ข Oversee the evaluation and assessment process for determining student eligibility for Special Education services
โ€ข Write and approve Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) when needed, including for any school in the Michiana Excel Center network
โ€ข Support testing coordination, enrollment events, and special programming as required
โ€ข Execute recruitment strategies to attract prospective students through outreach and events
โ€ข Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
โ€ข Master's degree preferred
โ€ข Flexible availability for daytime and evening.
โ€ข Current driver's license and adequate automobile insurance required.
โ€ข Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screen.
โ€ข Indiana Special Education Teaching License (required)
โ€ข Experience developing and managing IEPs, with strong knowledge of Indiana DOE compliance
