Job description

The Organization:

West End Community Church (PCA) is a gospel-centered church in Nashville, TN. At West End, we’re all on a journey; inside our walls, you’ll find the curious, the committed, the skeptical, the hurting, and the hopeful. Since 1996, our church and its ministries have grown, but our members have remained steady on this mission: to help people know, love, and follow Jesus. West End Community has a rich past, and we’re building toward an exciting future.

The Position:

The Director of Connection provides strategic leadership for membership, volunteer engagement, hospitality, and the overall congregant experience at West End. At its heart, this role helps West End feel like home by creating clear pathways from first visit to membership, service, and meaningful participation in the life of the church. West End is looking for a relational, trustworthy leader who genuinely cares for people, thinks strategically, and can turn vision into action. This person will advocate for visitors, members, and volunteers while developing and empowering their team, collaborating across departments, and bringing warmth, clarity, and accountability to their leadership. As one of the “front doors” of West End, they are a strong, winsome communicator who can help people understand the church and confidently find their next step. The Director leads the Membership, Volunteer, and Hospitality Coordinators, partners closely with Communications, Adult Discipleship, and Operations, and reports to the Senior Director of Connection and Family Ministry.

Responsibilities:

Lead & Develop the Connection Team

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Membership, Volunteer, and Hospitality Coordinators.
  • Create clear vision, accountability, and alignment across the team.
  • Recruit and develop strong leaders and volunteers.
  • Equip others to lead rather than personally owning every detail.

Strengthen Membership & Engagement

  • Oversee the visitor-to-membership journey and create clear next steps toward deeper involvement.
  • Oversee membership experiences, visitor follow-up, engagement data, and membership tracking.
  • Develop connection pathways that serve West End’s diverse congregation.
  • Partner with Adult Discipleship to help new members move naturally into deeper spiritual formation.
  • Track engagement metrics and use them to inform strategy.

Build a Strong Volunteer Culture

  • Develop a cohesive church-wide volunteer engagement strategy.
  • Create clear processes for volunteer recruitment, vetting, placement, development, and care.
  • Help congregants discover their gifts and meaningful opportunities to serve.
  • Equip ministry leaders across West End to recruit, develop, and care for volunteers.

Shape Hospitality & the Congregant Experience

  • Provide vision for Sunday morning hospitality, visitor engagement, and welcome teams.
  • Oversee hospitality for Wednesday programming and major church-wide events.
  • Partner with Communications and Operations around signage, messaging, wayfinding, spaces, and logistics.
  • Continually advocate for the experience of visitors, new members, volunteers, and congregants.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing people.
  • Strong relational, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience developing or improving programs, systems, or engagement processes.
  • Ability to think strategically while following through on execution.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across teams.
  • Strong organization, judgment, and ability to maintain healthy boundaries around responsibilities.
  • Be comfortable embracing and representing West End’s theological convictions and ministry philosophy.
  • Willingness to become a member of West End Community Church.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Long-term Disability Insurance
  • 401(k) Plan with up to 6% company matching
