Licensing Associate

Ready to shape the future of science and global health? ATCC, a global nonprofit that provides trusted biological materials for science and health, is seeking a Licensing Associate onsite based in Manassas, VA or Gaithersburg, MD. Experience negotiating licenses in the life science industry is highly preferred.

In this role, you'll support a diverse portfolio of commercial use inquiries and in/out-licensing opportunities, negotiate out-license agreements, collaborate on various agreements and work directly with customers to address questions and negotiate licenses. You'll also provide essential operational support, ensuring timely and accurate data input in our Intellectual Property (IP) management software and tools.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily operations of the commercial licensing program to generate revenue that meets or exceeds targets. Ensure efficient and cost-effective management of deal flow and assist with the contract enforcement program.
  • Prioritize out-license opportunities according to the licensing strategy and work with business units to identify potential in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities. Draft, review, and negotiate licensing and other collaborative agreements, ensuring alignment with organizational guidelines.
  • Track the licensing process from initial contact through execution, accurately input data in the licensing database, and provide regular metrics updates and reports to Senior Management. Conduct research to identify opportunities and qualify potential licensees, ensuring IP usage aligns with organizational messaging.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years' experience or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and legal agreement drafting skills.
  • Scientific degree or prior experience in life science industry highly preferred.
  • A combination of licensing & life science experience is ideal.
  • Ability to multi-task and exercise sound judgment; enhanced critical thinking to creatively negotiate and close deals.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated and takes initiative; strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; able to work independently or collaboratively with all levels of staff, external partners and licensing professionals to resolve problems to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving and results.
  • Attentive to detail with a high level of accuracy; exercise sound judgment and strong project management skills.
  • Adaptable; be able to shift priorities and focus as departmental and/or business demands change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent listening skills to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively.
Benefits

The target salary for this position is $75,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
