What is a licensing associate?

Licensing Associates are professionals who manage and facilitate the process of licensing intellectual property, such as patents, copyrights, or trademarks, for organizations like universities, research institutions, or corporations. They work to identify commercial opportunities, negotiate licensing agreements, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies. Licensing Associates often serve as a bridge between inventors, legal teams, and potential business partners to maximize the value of intellectual property assets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a licensing associate?

To thrive as a Licensing Associate, you need a solid understanding of intellectual property law, contract negotiation, and business development, often supported by a relevant degree such as in law, business, or life sciences. Familiarity with contract management systems, IP databases, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are typically required, and some roles may value certifications like CLP (Certified Licensing Professional). Strong attention to detail, interpersonal communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are standout soft skills. These competencies are crucial for successfully negotiating agreements, ensuring legal compliance, and building positive partnerships that maximize licensing value.

What are some common challenges licensing associates face when negotiating licensing agreements?

Licensing Associates often navigate complex negotiations that require balancing the interests of their organization with those of external partners. A key challenge is ensuring that terms protect intellectual property rights while also being commercially attractive to licensees. They must also stay up-to-date with legal and regulatory changes that can impact agreements and address potential conflicts or ambiguities in contract language. Effective communication and attention to detail are essential for managing these challenges and fostering positive, long-term partnerships.

Manhattan, KS Relocation Opportunity

Do you enjoy the idea of practicing medicine in a community where you know your clients by name, build relationships that last for years, and become a trusted part of the community?

South Sioux Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join our growing, privately owned practice in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Unlike corporate or private equity-owned practices, we focus on professional autonomy, high-quality medicine, and long-term client relationships. Our veterinarians make a meaningful impact while caring for generations of family pets in a supportive, collaborative environment.

For recent graduates, this provides the opportunity to build a strong clinical foundation while practicing in a community where your work is visible, your relationships matter, and you can grow alongside an experienced veterinary team.

South Sioux City offers the advantages of community-based practice while providing the resources of a modern regional veterinary hospital. You’ll have the opportunity to practice progressive companion animal medicine, work closely with an experienced support team, and build lasting relationships with clients who value continuity of care.

Whether you are an experienced veterinarian seeking community-focused practice or a recent graduate looking for a supportive environment to begin your career, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

Our hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities, including:

  • Digital radiography
  • Dental X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Full in-house laboratory (VetScan VS2; VetScan Opticell; Imagyst)
  • Phovia Light
  • Therapeutic Laser
  • Electronic medical records (AVImark)

What You'll Do

  • Provide high-quality medical care, diagnostics, and treatment for companion animals
  • Perform routine and complex medical examinations and develop treatment plans
  • Perform soft tissue surgery and dental procedures (orthopedic procedures based on experience)
  • Prescribe medications and recommend preventive care protocols
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care
  • Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure excellent patient outcomes
  • Maintain accurate medical records within AVImark
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented practice culture
  • Stay current on veterinary best practices and continuing education

Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited veterinary school
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Nebraska (within 60 days of start date)

Experience, Fit & Training

  • Experienced veterinarians and new graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply
  • Structured mentorship available
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and skill level
  • Strong interest in practicing high-quality medicine and developing long-term client relationships
  • Positive, collaborative approach to patient care and teamwork

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • AVImark experience preferred but not required

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: $90,000 – $110,000 DOE
  • Sign-on bonus
  • Health insurance provided after 60 days (premium paid by South Sioux Animal Hospital)
  • 401(k) with employer match after one year
  • Three weeks paid vacation annually
  • Continuing education allowance and paid CE time
  • Professional liability coverage
  • Disability insurance
  • AVMA membership provided
  • Professional licensure and membership support
  • Discounted pet care for employee-owned pets after 60 days

About the Opportunity

This position is based in South Sioux City, Nebraska, part of the Siouxland metropolitan area with a population of approximately 170,000.

For veterinarians considering a move from the Manhattan area, Siouxland offers a welcoming Midwestern community with affordable living, short commutes, outdoor recreation, local dining, cultural attractions, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships both professionally and personally.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to practice quality medicine in a supportive, privately owned environment where relationships matter as much as medicine, we would love to hear from you.
