Job Title:

Bilingual Older Adult Peer Specialist – Part Time

Reports to:

Operations Manager

Job Purpose:

Position Overview: The Part-time Older Adult Peer Specialist provides support and assistance to individuals aged 55+ living in Charlestown and Chelsea, Massachusetts. This role supports the development of self-determination, self-advocacy skills and other strategies that promote mental health recovery and healthy aging. The person must be willing to share their own recovery story when appropriate to promote the well-being of older adults. This position will be required to work up to 20 hours weekly.

What you will be doing:

  • Meet one-to-one and facilitate groups remotely or in person
  • Assist in forming wellness goals which will enhance other’s health and wellbeing and provide ongoing support to help them reach those self-identified goals
  • Collaborate with local community supports to identify individuals who would be interested in this type of support
  • Facilitate the connection to resources (such as libraries, fitness centers, community events, religious organizations, substance use support groups like AA and NA, etc.)
  • Complete documentation of services provided following established protocols

Who we are looking for?

  • A person aged 50 years or older, who is bilingual with lived experience with trauma, mental health issues, or substance use disorders
  • Willingness to be trained as a Certified Older Adult Specialist
  • At least two years of experience facilitating peer groups strongly preferred, or be willing to complete peer-group facilitation training within the first 12 months of employment
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
