Department: Public Services

Status: Part-Time

Position Description: Provides library services to all patrons as needed

BENEFITS:

WAGE:

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Works a minimum of 20 hours per week and no more than 29 hours per week.


Ability to arrive at locations throughout Mesa County to successfully fulfill job expectations. Locations include, but are not limited to, library branches and external locations for outreach, programs and classes.ย 


Service to Library Customers

Provides library service upon demand, issues library cards, checkout materials, answers directional questions, answers phone calls, assists patrons with the use of computers and other technology, places holds, locates material and information using the print collection and online resources. Provides basic instruction on the use of the self-check stations, return system, holds pick up system, text notifications, library catalog, PC reservation, printing, mobile printing, utilizing the Internet and library resources. Responds to routine patron inquiries concerning library procedures and policies. Promotes and directs patrons to other services throughout the library. Promotes and assists patrons with WoW services, Books by Mail, and assists with outreach events, library programs and activities as needed. Fills in at other locations and departments when needed. Works with staff throughout the library district to improve and provide outstanding library service to all patrons and volunteers.


Other Library Duties

Checks in all materials, sorts and shelves items, complete paging slips, all item lists, missing media, hold shelf maintenance, ordering of supplies, wiki updates and other items as needed to ensure effective library operations. Facilitate access to the public computers, Community Rooms, and Study Rooms. Merchandise the collection, create book displays, and maintains an inviting, well-organized library by shelf reading and straightening materials and furniture. Assist with library programs, outreach and special events. Maintain a working knowledge and basic understanding of all MCL services, programs and events. Communicate consistently and in a timely manner verbally and through email, work with others to complete assignments, and remain in scheduled positions. Operate RFID technology and other applicable technology.


SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Communicates clearly in-person and via email and other electronic tools consistently and in a timely manner. Works with others to complete assignments.ย 

Performs additional duties as opportunities arise that assist the department and the library in achieving specified goals and objectives.ย 

Stays informed on developments of Mesa County Libraries services and trends:

o Attends monthly staff meetings and training; attends external training as requested, stays aware of changes via email and staff wiki.

May participate in and contribute to library committees and activities.

Skill in understanding and applying oral, written, illustrated or demonstrated instructions Skill in observing groupings and identifying misplaced items when shelving materials Ability to access, edit, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

Ability to operate a variety of library equipment in a safe and effective manner. Ability to effectively use all office technology available.

Ability to investigate and document patron account issues in a timely fashion.

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License, preferred.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to remain standing or bending for extended periods of time Ability to maneuver about the library in a timely fashion.

Ability to bend to floor level or reach a height of 75 inches.

Ability to push movable carts loaded to a maximum of 250 pounds. Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 points.

Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and to transport self to other library locations in a timely fashion.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Subject to frequent interruptions, performs duties in public spaces within the library and in Public Services staff area.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education or training associated with the completion of a two-year degree in college, vocational or technical school courses of study related to the area of assignment, or two (2) years' previous library experience or retail customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


SCHEDULE:

Unpaid meal break of at least hour per shift to be taken for each 5 hours scheduled.

Must be available to work flexible hours to cover unplanned staffing shortages and department vacations. Includes evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
